  • Abalone Eight Treasure Duck Tasting Menu

    139per Head **Only in 3Gorges** The Cantonese version features a duck stuffed with eight stir-fried ingredients, including glutinous rice, diced Chinese mushrooms, Abalone , Lotus seeds, Chinese sausage, Dried shrimp, Jujubes, Salted egg yolk, Jinhua ham, Barley, Dried lily. Before the duck is stuffed, the duck is marinated overnight in dark soy sauce, spices, and Shaoxing wine. The duck skin is then tightened with hot oil ladled over the duck. After the duck is stuffed, it is cooked in a chicken and soy broth for over an hour, which produces tender and succulent meat. It became a famous banquet dish in Hong Kong in the 1930s. The dish is labor-intensive to prepare, and is typically ordered several days in advance in restaurants. The dish is traditionally served during Chinese New Year's Eve.     My wife and I shared the 6 and 9 course tasting menus. The food - every course - was absolutely divine. Sometimes 1-2 of the courses are not so good, but in this case all courses were excellent and we devoured every morsel of the food. Wine list was also good value, and we specifically wanted to comment on the service which was polite, attentive to a level of detail that we felt well far beyond what is normally expected. Massively impressed by this and we will be back - my wife remarked that if we lived closer we would be there all the time. Simply wonderful

    By far the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. Ordered 12 course tasting menu, it took one hour for the first course to arrive and by 11pm we had only made it to course number 4. Staff were awful, no explanation about what was going on or why everything was so poor. We still had to pay full price for the food, but left before we finished, after the fourth course because we were so fed up. Others had been there for 4 hours. No explanation or no apology given. The worst experience I’ve ever had by far.I would have expected to be offered a full refund

    One of the worst experiences. It started off really bad when I called the restaurant - a person answered and before I said anything he shouted “I am busy call later” and hung up. Horrible service - this is a take out Chinese that is overpriced

    We were sat down and ignored for the better part of an hour. Decided to leave without eating as “a kitchen jam” meant we’d only be receiving our food a further half-hour later. No refreshments were offered per their own volition and the tiny restaurant had an awkward ambiance with everyone staring at their neighbour’s table or a waiter in an attempt to figure out why the hell they went down there for dinner.
