Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Parker's Tavern offers a delightful afternoon tea experience with "excellent food" and "outstanding savoury selections." Guests appreciate the "polite and knowledgeable" service and the charming setting, whether in the library or overlooking Parker's Piece. However, some experienced slow service and felt the ambience could improve. Overall, it's a great choice for a special treat.

Disappointing experience for us. Our tea arrived quite a while after the food. We didn't have plates to eat off snd had to request them. Our order was incorrectly entered and we shared a tea for one we dodnt realise we just thought the poetions were a little mean. The rest of the savouries were brought to us later but we had already started on sweet things. Our waiter tried their best to make things better and I think it was a function of being understaffed however it was a special occasion outing and was somewhat ruined.

Lovely setting, beautiful savouries and scones. For the price there were far too many sweet treats- these were lovely but became simply inedible due to the sheer size and amount. The amount of pistachio crème on the mince pie was somewhat sickly and I think substance over style would be more appreciated. Our waiters were lovely though, and nothing was too much. Also- it would be nice to have proper boxes to take sweet treats home in as again, it was simply impossible to eat that much sugar in one sitting.

Food was lovely. We asked for no fish sandwiches, but this was not substituted with anything else and still charged the full amount. The table we were put on was right by the door which kept letting a cold draft in and the sofa was really uncomfortable and low down to sit on. Also for afternoon tea for 4 people a £17.50 service charge was added to our bill! Which was more than 10%.

Delicious food in a wonderful setting. It would have been nice to have been in the library as advertised but the bar over looking Parker’s Piece was very nice.

We went for my birthday a Halloween afternoon tea. I have been here before but it wasn’t as good as last time we went. There was less savoury choice and the cakes were not as nice as the traditional afternoon tea I had before. The value was not as good. It took a while to be served and waiting to be served for extra tea etc. No jam came for the scones so had to ask for this too. Overall came away disappointed. Which was sad as it was my birthday treat. I won’t go again.

Beautiful building - lovely table tucked away in the library, but was really pricey for what we got. The kids afternoon tea was much better value - and almost the same as the adults (minus a scone and a cake) for half the price. Wish we’d known as I was debating ordering my 13 year old the kids option and wish the waitress had told me, as ended up ordering the adult for her and having leftovers. Also the tea options are very limited. Still the cakes were so cute and it was a good fun thing to do as a treat!

Very poor service. Organised for my friends birthday, contact with the tavern before regarding her nut allergy, confirmed 48 hours before, on arrival ignored by staff when waiting to be seated, small pot of tea arrived 30 minutes after arrival, on questioning no documentation of the nut allergy, server unsure if this could be accommodated. Waited 1 hour for the food to arrive, very poor substitutions for the nut allergy. Terrible service. Very dissapointing, especially when organised as a gift for a friend.

I have emailed them directly and they have not replied to me. It is a lovely venue and the Halloween afternoon tea looked very good. However, we struggled to get the staff’s attention when we wanted refills or even our bill. There was a small wedding party there at the same time. I would have been happy to have to wait a bit longer, but we could not even get staff’s attention to order. I had the menu in my hand, trying to make it obvious that we wanted more drink for about half an hour. The staff were very friendly when they did talk to us, and I would have raised it on the day, but they did not ask how it was. I would not have been happy with this service with a really cheap afternoon tea, but even less so with how expensive it was

Took 20 to 30 minutes for coffee to arrive. Had to ask multiple times. Took ages to be served. Arrived a little early and told table wasn’t ready but the area the table was in was empty. Lots of staff but no one seemed to know what they were doing. Had 6 afternoon teas only two jam and creams came out so again had to ask for more. Not worth the price.
