Alara, modern Mediterranean escape.

Our menu is focused, mainly on Turkish and Greek cuisine and inspired by Levant region. Levantine cuisine is celebrated for its vibrant flavors and the communal expense of sharing meals. As you enter gates of our restaurant in this historic Georgetown, you will be transported to tavernas along the Aegean coastal towns where the Turkish cost meet the Greek Islands. Our restaurant will great you with a dose of warm, genuine, Mediterranean hospitality as you indulge in the tastes and traditions of the Aegean

The restaurant is too congested, tables are too close to each other. We over heard all the conversation of the people next to us. Waiters were overwhelmed, felt there were too many of them too. They were bumping into each other dropping drinks, cutlery etc We ordered Hummus but got no bread?? So we had to keep asking for the bread. Bread did taste nice though. The noise level in this restaurant is ridiculous , you can’t have a conversation or hear yourself think. We definitely won’t be going for a meal here again. Disappointed!!

We had a second visit to Alara last night last week. I was very impressed - but the food quality wasn't consistent night to night. The decor is fresh and modern. Seating in the upper section is pretty tight, especially around the two tops. Service is quite good - they almost overstaff. Sometimes, servers were falling over themselves over our table. We had the tasting menu on the first night, and they forgot to serve one of our courses. Our server recognized it after a while, but it somewhat impacted the flow. Salads were generous portions, fresh and well dressed. The various tried dips were all spectacular and large servings (I had to take home leftovers both nights). The bread is killer - anticipate going through a few baskets! For appetizers, we tried the falafel, halloumi, and cheese wrapped in fried bread. The falafel is the best I've ever had - light and fresh. For the main small plates, we tried the lavash kababs (a bit bland), the chicken kabob (moist and tasty), and the kafteh in Iskandar sauce, which was a home run on the first visit. On the second visit, the plating was different, with minimal sauce on top and not served over yogurt. Mixing the decision sauce and yogurt with each bite of the tender, spiced-to-perfection beef was what made it so memorable on night one. We also tried the mousaka served in its little pan - tempting to look at and equally enjoyable to eat. Again, portions are generous, and we took home some ketah and moussaka. I'm not complaining! For dessert, we tried the baklava (light and crisp - not doused in honey), the creme brulee (interesting flavor), and the winner - tiramisu (creamy and flavorful - still wishing I had one more bite). Pricing isn't cheap. The tasting menu is 52 dollars per person. 20% gratuity is automatically added. With three people and five drinks, we had a $300 bill. Highly recommend!

This was my first meal at Alara and we ordered several mezzas for lunch, including hummus, dolmades, and butter shrimp. All were very tasty. The wait staff is inexperienced and I had to call our waiter over to take our order after watching him pass by our table multiple times over 5-10 minutes. The ambience and decor were very nice. It’s maybe a little pricey with the 20% service charge tacked on, but not outrageous. Hopefully the service will get better as the staff gets better organized.

Having a 20% service charge that does not go towards the servers tip, is a bridge too far. If costs have increased so much in the short time that the restaurant has been in service, they should just increase the menu prices. When you go to eat here be aware that you will pay 50% more than what is listed on the menu. Service charge 20%, gratuity 20%, tax 10%.

Delicious food & nice decor. However seating on the right side is too crowded and needs to be reconfigured. Tables too close to each other and waiters can’t maneuver between tables without disturbing the clients. Unacceptable by any standard.

Abraham, our server, was great. Very attentive and welcoming. The food was great as well, especially the moutabal. Very energetic atmosphere in a well designed space, so it's a great spot if you're looking for a lively night out.

The restaurant is really cute, service was good and some dishes were good. However the kebab, the moussaka didn’t take original to me
