Owner and Executive Chef Melissa Araujo is a 2024 James Beard Foundation Best Chef Southeast Semifinalist. Alma is an award winning Honduran restaurant located in the historic New Orleans Bywater, just outside the French Quarter.

Alma means soul in Spanish. The menu showcases Chef Melissa Araujo's Honduran heritage and takes each guest on a journey through food and culture. The Soul has many stories to tell; Alma's tale is shared through it's dining experience. From Pollo Chuco, to Bloody Mary's and avocado toast, Alma offers an extensive array of dishes focusing on Honduran Food.

Chef Araujo’s Father was Born in La Ceiba, Honduras and her memories of her childhood are centered around this particular view of the city. The mountains in the back, the ocean, the cool air in my face, my best memories were made in this city. Alma has given me the opportunity to recreate these memories and share them with our guests.

Reservations available Monday- Thursday, Waitlist only on Weekends.

I enjoyed the creamy coconut margarita (mocktail) and the Alma breakfast that consisted of eggs, refried beans, avocado, and sweet plantains. I added chorizo. Everything was lovely.

Actual Honduran gem in the Bywater. Plenty of outdoors seating on a warm November day. Unique food (adult French toast, Honduran enchilada) was an absolute joy.

The host was so rude, we had reservations arrived five minutes early. The restaurant was about 2/3 full, she told us to follow her which we did. She started walking toward the black where there were many open tables. She stopped and pointed back to the first table by door and said sit there. She repeatedly stood in the doorway talking with other employees letting the cold air blow in on us. The service was so slow, I took about 20-30 minutes to get our drinks. The food was amazingly, truly delicious. When the drinks were empty, our food plates go removed, but no check and no sign of our waitress. So we actually had to go to the back of restaurant and hunt her down. The back of the house knows what they are doing but the front of the house needs some training. I live in Nola and love to dine without the rush but there is the difference between space and ignoring, and that is what makes a good meal fabulous.
