The food was very nice. Service was too fast. We were in and out in less than an hour. The whole experience was perfectly adequate. Nothing not to like, but nothing exceptional.

I had great expectations for Amuse but they weren’t quite met. Admittedly our table was just before Christmas but the service was slow to begin with, especially for pre dinner drinks ~ 20 mins. It took around 15 minutes to be given menus which we needed to ask for. The servers were helpful but clearly overstretched. The first course of ravioli (lobster and a mouse) was overcooked and bland. The accompanying bisque split opinions (£18). The main (2 pieces of roe deer fillet one slice of carrot and some spinach at £39) was well cooked and tender but poor value. Desserts - treacle tart/lime ice cream and warm chocolate mousse were nice. Overall at £100 per person I didn’t feel it was good value for money. Even a few more vegetables would have helped. I don’t think we will be back.

To start the signature cocktail "Ginger" was lovely, but let's be honest, not worth the cost of 1/3 a bottle whiskey. I am reliably informed that the mocktails were very good. We had the pigeon risotto as our starter which was good, the sauce was beautiful and the risotto well made but the pigeon could have been left to rest longer and was a bit tough; the butter knifes we were given struggled to cut the meat. The lobster was our fish course and by far the most disappointing. I can only describe the meal as "biege" on every level. Underseasoned and underwhelming. Honestly, it made us slightly queasy later in the evening. A sort of nice bisque was met with a bland pasta shell, flavourless spinach and a lobster mouse was the flavour equivilent of white noise. The longistine was a tiny drop of pleasantness in the dish but when I say tiny, I meam 20p sized. I would not have expected quality like this from a box standard high street restaurant let alone one that is trying to be the premier east coast restaurant. We had the roe for our main which was well cooked, packed with flavour and well presented. Likely the best dish of the night, but I would say that even for a restaurant of this apparent level the portion was the right size for the tasting menu, not an actual main. The ambiance was somewhat ruined about twenty minutes in when the restaurant began to fill up and the tight packed tables meant I had to nearly shout for my wife to hear me across our own. Before that point it was lovely. Service was good from the manager but the wait staff need a bit of refinement. They tried to take unfinished drinks from the table, left finished meals in front of us for ages and had to be reminded to bring us our coats before we left. I can see what Amuse is getting at, and it has the potential to get there but for fine dining in Scotland, it has not hit the mark just yet.

Booked Amuse for my 15th anniversary with my husband, expecting a lovely lunch and a large bill at the end of the night. From the moment we arrived until we left, we were very well looked after. We even had a card waiting for us, signed by staff - nice touch! The alcohol free drinks menu was good and the Tanqueray mocktail was so moreish! My husband loved the Macallan cocktail and the wine was beautiful. I'm pregnant and my special request for well done beef medallion (devastated!) was executed to perfection. Everything we ate was delicious, with a good amount of time between dishes. The instrumental music was relaxing and a good volume to have a conversation, without feeling like everyone could hear us. This place IS expensive. They definitely get you with the extras, but this was something we were expecting and we didn't grudge paying the 12.5% service charge after the lovely experience we had. We would love to come back! Thank you and congrats to you all - you've got a great thing going here!
