Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boom­box, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles. The cuisine, much like the design, is intended to set a new course. Chef Chris Santos was one of the pioneers of the small, share plate dining trend that has swept the nation, and with the Beauty & Essex menu, he once again has created waves on the food scene.

    Our final seating will be for guests looking to join us through the New Year! Seating in our Dining Room will be $250 per person, not including beverages, tax, and gratuity. This will feature a special New Year’s Eve menu that will consist of our greatest hits. There will be a DJ, dancers, a countdown to midnight, and a complimentary champagne toast! All guests joining us for the final seating must be 21+ years of age. All guests attending our final seating must prepay the per person amount. In the event that you need to cancel, we ask that all cancelations be made by Monday, December 23rd in order to receive a full refund. After the 23rd, they are non-refundable. Decreases in party size cannot use remaining minimum towards beverage.

    Skip this and reserve at Bar Louise in Park Slope for similar ambiance and decor but better food and experience. Since it’s owned by Tao group, then owned by an investment firm, so not by an actual person, I don’t really feel bad leaving the review. Someone else could possibly do more amazing things with that space. Yes, they did give us a 50% discount because we had some inconveniences ( the potatoes for our entrees came 20 minutes after the eggs), so that was a very generous gesture , but if you’re someone who needs a great experience overall and cannot risk it, then don’t come here . We came for the decor and liked it and my friends would come again. But the food is not amazing and they seem too understaffed to actually provide good customer service (people with reservations get placed on the couch to wait for tens of minutes - I think if I had not gone again to ask they would have completely forgot we were there).

    Everything about our experience was wonderful until we were waiting for our ride at the end and the bouncer made us wait outside in the 20 degree weather and locked the door behind us. Multiple parties were still eating inside and he said we had to leave because they were closing. I felt very disrespected after having a nice meal and then literally being "kicked" out and had to wait outside while people were still inside. I don't think I would dine here again just because of the experience at the end of the night.

    This was my 3rd visit to this location and it did not disappoint. Food and ambiance were perfect. Absolutely love this place and highly recommend.

    Hostesses are rude and disorganized. We had a reservation, but weren’t sat for 45 minutes. Bartenders are surly at best. When we were sat, the kitchen had run out of things. Go anywhere else.

    The facility is amazing. The tables were crammed together we were in everyone’s conversation around us. The food was ok. Not anything amazing. Service was slow after the appetizers.

    We had a great experience at Beauty and Essex! We ordered 8 items for 5 people and had plenty of food. Highlights were apple and kale salad, tomato soup and grilled cheese dumplings, strip steak and mushroom ravioli. Service was fantastic and ambience was fabulous. Expensive but worth it!
