An exceptionally stylish supper club, civilized speakeasy, a sophisticated saloon. Each of these "personae" is housed in a soaring two-story interior distinguished by a gently curving mahogany bar, fluted columns with ornate capitals, stunning original art, plush banquettes, cozy booths, starched linens, glittering glasses, and polished flatware.
Overall, the ambiance is pure 1930's and 1940's - tasteful art moderne reminiscent of the glory days of Cunard and French Line ships. Fashionable and glamorous are the hallmarks. Trendy is simply not a part of the BIX culture.
The clientele at BIX ranges from San Francisco movers-and-shakers to "savvy travelers" - owner Doug Biederbeck's term for the many diners in the know from out of town who patronize his establishment.
All of them step from the featureless alley into another world - a world of superb cookery and libations, of sparkling service, of stylish nostalgia, of polished live jazz. That world is BIX.

    Just a terrific evening. Mix a warm greeting with good jazz, classic cocktails, some 1930’s ambiance, and good food and you can’t miss! It was a little loud as folks tried to talk over the music rather than below it, but we managed good conversation despite that and the jazz led by the Bix music director really added to the evening. Looking forward to returning!!

    This is a great old standby in a renovated building in the most charming part of San Francisco. Food and service are great, plus live jazz playing in the background. A large crowd of regulars were in attendance, even on a Tuesday night.

    Bix is back! Vibey, jazzy dinner & drinks with live piano and vocalist on a Tuesday evening. Business crowd, old school menu, memorable and fun.

    It was my birthday dinner. When we got to the table, there was a Happy Birthday card on the table which made me feel warm. Staff was very attentive, specially Michelle! Loved the jazz music playing through out the dinner.

    Service was poor and food was average Waiting for music to resume after our meal. My wife’s Birthday. Tried to order another drink as music restarted and was told I was overserved and had to leave. Ok, I left quietly in an Uber . I was not overserved I think they just wanted table back Should have just said so Needless to say I left zero tip after. Just wrong Nice restaurant but wrong guy managing. I love the owners too. Happy to hear comments.

    Another festive evening at Big. I introduced a colleague and he loved the vibes, craft cocktails and menu. The staff was attentive and accommodating.

    Born, raised, and living in SF for over 40yrs, it’s sad to see former great restaurants focus on profit over quality or lose their identity, but not Bix. Our dining experiences are always consistent, in a wonderful ambiance, and great value.
