We are Montrealers and have dined at Bonaparte over the years, but are not 'regulars'. Last night we had another wonderful meal there, starting first by their warm welcome. I had asked for a table for two by the window where we were promptly seated. The restaurant is very pretty and is located on one of Old Montreal's charming streets. The whole experience feels like being in Europe. To start I shared mushroom ravioli with my sister which may be the best mushroom ravioli we have ever had. I then had the duck confit (leg of duck) and she had the beef bourgignon, both excellent. We shared a piece of their lemon pie (their signature dessert), which was delicious. They certainly know how to make great cocktails and my cosmopolitan was exceptional. My final comments would be about the prices: drinks and food, given the quality served, are very reasonable. And I would be remiss by not mentioning the service. The wait staff are top notch, and the food was served at a good pace. The tables are beautifully set (with tablecloths!) and well-spaced from on another, and the noise level is moderate and pleasant.

Moment magique; tout y est raffiné, attentionné et saupoudré d’un charmant cachet d’époque! Notre première visite et au bonheur d’y retourner bientôt! Une institution qui mérite hautement sa réputation. Un grand merci à toute l’équipe!

I had the Sole as a main course and it was terrible, they should not be allowed to charge $50 for that. It was not well prepared and dry for Sole.

We were very happy dining at Bonaparte on our first night in Montreal. Loved the decor of the restaurant and hotel lobby. The holiday decor added extra appeal and ambiance. Our meals and drinks were delicious.

We’ve been going to Bonaparte for years for special occasions. This will absolutely be our last visit,. This experience was absolutely atrocious. After waiting an hour for the first course is was somehow downhill afterwards. To start, the prices were different for the Christmas Eve coursed menu in person than they were online. Yes, it was only a $10 difference on the wine, but seems somewhat unethical to advertise something and change it in person. The course that we waited one hour for was soup and a salad. Each course the wine paring was delivered to the table at least 30 minutes before the course reached the table. The wine was not poured at the table, but rather brought to the table prepoured without seeming the bottles. The courses were subpar and bland with almost an hour between courses. When the mains finally arrived, the steak was a subpar cut that was overdone and chewy. My partner was literally sawing thru the steak. I ordered the Dover sole meunière which was flavorless and NOT meunière. We picked this location for Christmas Eve BECAUSE of my love for Dover sole meunière, so needless to say I was completely disappointed to see that it was not prepared as described. This was misleading and frustrating, almost as if they thought the customer would not know what to expect from a Dover sole meunière. We left without consuming the dessert course and its wine . The experience was so horrific that we just needed to get out of there at any cost. In the end, we were not charged for one of our tasting menus which was the bare minimum they could have done. We’ve been going to this restaurant for years and are sadden to know that this was our last experience and last time eating at what was one of our favorite restaurants in Montreal.
