From start to finish, Cafe Bloom was the joint worst breakfast experience we’ve had in many years in London (for the record, the wooden spoon is shared with Browns, a post Private Equity sweat-the-asset nightmare of failed low expectations). We hung around for a bit hoping someone might show an interest in us and our booking. Eventually we got a table and some hot drinks (the advertised freshly squeezed orange juice was not available and we declined the bottled version as the nice waitress didn’t seem convinced it was a good alternative). In an almost empty restaurant it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Oh to tell you it was worth the wait… but no! The scrambled eggs were almost white (a sure sign of terrible quality) and so overcooked that they could be picked up en masse and wafted about. My children made better breakfasts aged six. This desiccated gunk sat atop a disappointingly unbuttered slice of dry sourdough. My wife’s omelette (I did think she’d taken a risk) had the look and texture of a tired inner sole, with about as much nutritional value. Sensing we were unhappy they brought us a complementary drink… the bottle of concentrated orange juice we had declined! This at least made us laugh. Honestly, if you can’t make some simple eggs and serve them in 15 minutes you ought to find something else to do. Based on the finished products here I’d offer up bricklaying as an attractive alternative.
