My wife and I had a very nice lunch on Saturday, but I was not served what I ordered. The menu had changed recently and I was not advised of this when I ordered. I ordered a sharing platter which consisted of a selection of cold meats, rillettes, bread and a baked camembert with caramelised onions. This was still on the menu in the restaurant and also on the Cafe Rouge web site on the Internet. What I was served was six sausages, garlic bread, hummus and a baked camembert. It was nice but I do not think it was worth the same price as the selection of cold meats etc. I think the staff should have said the menu had changed when I ordered and I would have ordered something different. As usual the service was first class and all the staff very helpful and friendly.

The steaks were well cooked with sauce on the side and the deserts were delicious. The restaurant was not very busy as we went at 5.30 in the evening. We have been at 8 pm and had to book in advance in order to get s table. We had the house red which was very palatable. With the discount from the Gourmet society it was a reasonable price. The waitress was very attentive so we would definitely go there again.

The experience was fine but the bill just did not make sense to me. It did not add up, the cost was more than the total bill on the receipt. The waitress could not explain it and l did not fancy starting an argument so l paid. I probably won't come back because in the end a bill has to make sense.

I booked online and when we got there they did not have the reservation. I did phone a couple of days before to confirm my booking they were busy. I was told they would look and check in a bit, if there wasn’t a booking they would book it in. They obviously didn’t do this, luckily there was space.

Unfortunately we had quite a bad experience on Saturday. I think the staff need more training, they were possibly new staff but they needed to be trained on the basics of dealing with customers. Smiling & saying hello (even what appeared to be the female manager!) My drink order had to be corrected twice, even though i had othe same drink the first time. Third time lucky! My son's sausages looked too anaemic, so I asked politely for them to be cooked a bit more as when I cut the second one it didn't feel quite right. I think they forgot to bring them out again as it took a long time and it was the same meal, where I had cut them for him. Initially when we arrived at the restaurant, we weren't made to feel welcome. I can understand if the staff are busy but it doesn't take much to say they would be with us in a minute. I think overall it wasn't a great experience & I wouldn't go back. We recently ate in the Tenterden branch & that was good.

Over priced and poor service, staff talking a foreign language (polish) in front of customers made us feel a little bit awkward as this is the uk restaurant.food average.
