   We were seated and after 15 minutes we had to go ask the host for a server to take our order. Most of our food came out before our drinks even came out. Had high expectations but would not recommend if you value service and good quality

   Absolutely beautiful space. The tables are optimally spaced and the music is truly background music so you can speak with your dinner guests without shouting. The staff are thoughtful and attentive. The bartenders are a delight to watch and the drinks are well blended. I was not moved by the food in the way I hoped. The empanadas were freshly prepared and the flavors were good. The tamales were too spicy for me and that diminished my ability to enjoy them. They were quite flavorful but too spicy. The guacamole was good but there was no salsa. I think it is a great place to pop in and have a drink and some might really like the food. I was let down.

   Overall the food and drinks were great! The ambiance is nice! I would come again! The reservation policy is…eh. I understand a deposit for booking a reservation, and I’m okay with it being applied to the bill. I’m not okay with losing the deposit (for a person) if we book for 4 and 3 show up. Why not just modify or apply the full deposit to the bill. At $15/pp it just seems a bit much.

   Very good cocktails. Gin and tequila based mostly. Lovely small-ish bites. Amazing bang for your buck. Atmosphere definitely adds to the appeal. Servers are nice, knowledgable, and attentive. Authentic flavors. The new concept from Erick Williams adds a nice variety to his portfolio—also love that it’s right next to Virtue. Ask for one of their booths if available.

   I had a girls’ night out with one of my besties Arianna, we had such a fabulous time! We were at Cantina Rosa in Hyde Park, a black owned Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious, the food is more appetizer, non-entreé, I got full off of their shrimp cocktail & a lamb inspired tortilla; the drinks are delightful, but strong. They have alcohol & non-alcoholic beverages. I’m going to give you a warning, that spirit free Vertida with jalapeño ingredient has some kick. The ambiance was beautiful, dim lighting, the waitress told me they remodeled the restaurant, and it looked really picturesque. Also, that playlist they were playing was a mixture of 90’s R & B with Latino music, we were jamming and eating. Cantina Rosa had amazing customer service, and I recommend it for a girls’ night, a date, solo outing for yourself, and you can also have private events there as well. I hope you try it out, and enjoy it like I did! 😉

    At 4:45 on Sunday, Jan 5th, I made a reservation for 2 for 6pm. I then needed to cancel reservation, so I called the restaurant when they opened at 5pm, (15 minutes after placing the resy). The hostess said they would not accommodate the cancellation and would charge my card the $30 cancellation fee. So my friend and I arrived at 6pm, but based on the lack of accommodation for our request, decided to not spend money on dinner and only have 2 drinks to fulfill the $30 minimum spend. While having the very expensive drinks, the owner, Erik Williams, comes to the bar. I though that perhaps he would offer some sort of accommodation for our poor first time experience, but no, he basically gave an explanation about most patrons not understanding the restaurant business and that he bases his staffing on the number reservations so he will not accommodate a cancellation within 24 hours, basically a ‘sorry you feel this way’, apology. Understandable, but if a reservation is cancelled within 15-20 minutes, there should be some sort of grace period, before a patron is forced to pay $30. Needless to say, we quickly finished our drinks, passed on dinner, and will not be returning. Dining out is elective and should be a pleasant experience, but our first time patronizing Cantina Rosa, was less than desirable.
