Carmel transports the energy, culture, and flavor of the renowned outdoor marketplace “Shuk HaCarmel” to Melrose Avenue, in the heart of LA’s food scene.

Using some of the oldest techniques in the world— a wood-burning oven, an open flame grill— chef Asaf Maoz interprets ancient Levantine cooking traditions through a modern lens.

Dishes showcase the best of the season: farmer’s market produce, sustainably-sourced meats and seafood, all prepared with the global culinary influence of the Tel Aviv shuk. Breads are baked in-house, including a 72-hour fermented Moroccan Frena, baked to order in the wood-fire oven.

We tried Carmel for the first time last night to celebrate my husband's bday! The service was great, and the food was excellent. The only downside is we sat at a table that felt very cramped -- we hope to sit in a booth next time :)

One of the best dining experiences every single time ! Food and Service are both fantastic. Great ambience. The mushroom cigars & bread are a must for starters and everything else on the menu- including the sea bass, cauliflower, sweet potatoes......etc. It's all so flavorful and delish.

Came for our anniversary on New Years, had the most incredible time with Steven the sommelier who paired each course with a natty wine. Henry our waiter from Ivory Coast dished out tasty courses from their NYE set menu, he gave ample recommendations. We had a hard time picking our favorite dishes but highlights included: blue fin tuna amuse bouche, the spicy garlic feta mezze, the jerusalem artichoke tortellini, and the striped bass. It was totes fire 🔥, the Bass was drenched in ouzo and the skin was perfectly crisp, the creamy truffle sauce in the tortellini sent out eyes to the back of our skulls 💀. Finished off the meal with an insane ‘sundae’ loaded with pine nuts, tahini, and a gelato with a texture unmatched by anything we’ve had before! just get it. Toodaloo Carmel, see you soon.

Spectacular, as always. This time, for the most inventive and unique brunch in the city. The cardamom pancake was a standout. The wood-fired, za’atar spiced, Jerusalem bagels were devoured. The moroccan cigars and the burger was excellent. It’s always a pleasure to be taken away, at Carmel.

Too crowded, too expensive, too noisy, small portions of food and measures of drink, and then we were given the "bums-rush" just as soon as we had paid the bill. The waiter was splendid, however. I shall not be recommending this establishment to others.
