Great location and ambience. Amazing waitstaff. It’s just when I sent my steak back because it was too rare, it came back kind of tough. All else was good.

A Comedy of Errors DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT Our evening started with having to explain to our waitress what a gin and tonic is - we then received one gin and tonic and one disgusting gin and soda water. The evening then went downhill from there. Our first FOUR choices of wine were not available. Then, when we finally found one they actually had, we had to teach the waitress how to open the bottle!!!! And it turned out she had been given an old buckled corkscrew that was never going to work. The French onion soup contained nice cheese and onions - but the thin greasy broth was tasteless. For the main course we ordered bison rib-eye - but after about 20 mins we were informed they had run out of bison because they had a big party in earlier - as if that was some kind of justification when they had only accepted ourbooking the day before, when they already knew they had the big party in!! A further 20 mins later - a full 40 mins after ordering - they told us they only had one baked potato - not the two we’d ordered. Except it turned out not to be a baked potato anyway - but a microwaved one with papery skin. And it was not the fully loaded potato we ordered - there was hardly any topping - they had obviously run out of that as well…!! As for the salad we were supposed to have with our main course - there was no sign of that. When we complained about the whole experience, their pathetic offer of compensation was a free dessert - when we had been forced to pay twice as much for our wine ($50 instead of $25) because they didn’t have most of the items on the wine menu. Eventually, after making it clear we were not going to be satisfied with their ridiculous compensation offer, they knocked a sensible amount off the bill. But we would rather have had a nice evening. Choose a different restaurant - do not go to this one!!!!

I have been going to the Cavalryman for more than 30 years. It has always been my “go to” restaurant for special occasions. In that time, I have seen some transitions take place – some good and some left a bit to be desired. In recent years, I was glad to see that it had returned to its former glory. However, last night’s meal was a disappointment. We were not prepared for the very much abbreviated menu. Some of our favorites were gone and those that were listed were not past favorites. Had I known in advance that our selection would be thus limited and so disappointing I would have gone elsewhere and unless I hear that the menu improves and returns to some reasonable similarity to how it once was, I will not be returning. In addition, our choice wine selection, although it was listed in the wine list, was not available and we had to go with one that was not our first choice. We also agreed that the background music was loud and the genre was a bit harsh for dinner music and made conversation difficult.

Over the past several years, Cavalryman Steakhouse has been very hit or miss ... sometimes very good like a couple months ago, and sometimes very mediocre, like last night. We won't be back anytime soon unless we hear that things have improved. The quality of our steak was not good, and the side dishes were equally not up to par.

We both ordered tenderloin. One arrived half the size of the other. Cremated on the outside. The wait person was inexperienced and awkward. The rule is that you can never judge the last visit by the next. It is just easier to go to another steakhouse, even if it is in another town.

We wanted to take my son and two of his friends out for a nice steak dinner. What a disappointment. We had reservations, it took them 30 minutes to get us seated and half the dining room was empty and they weren’t allowing bar seating because they only had one bartender on a holiday weekend. The waitress was perky and apologized but obviously overwhelmed. It took forever to just order the drinks let alone get them. I ordered a nice glass of red wine which came in a small white wine glass, which she apologized for and said they didn’t have any clean ones. Food was hit and miss, my ribeye was less than 1/2” thick and way over done, not even pink when I ordered medium rare. I did not send it back because we were going on almost 2 hours just to get entrees. There was no fat at all, a ribeye should be marbled, there was no sear at all just a dull brown. My baked potato was very good. The bison burger was good but also overcooked, the strip was overdone and no sear and the beef burger was very good. The interior hasn’t been updated since it opened and is very cheap looking. If you are looking for a nice steak dinner, this is NOT the place.

Upon making a reservation via OpenTable, we arrived, on time, to find our reservation was given away. Hostess asked if we wouldn't mind waiting, to which, we said no, we had other obligations. After 12 minutes she got us a table. I proceeded to order 3 different glasses of wine because first two were not available. Wife also had a drink choice that was not available. Service was sub par. When I got the check, I have never been asked to tip the kitchen staff as well as service staff, I find this presumptuous.
