CHARCUT is a proud female majority-owned and operated destination restaurant and bar from Calgary’s CHAR Hospitality Group – founded by Carrie Jackson and acclaimed chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. Our menu draws inspiration from Italian and Portuguese traditions, a nod to Connie’s heritage, while celebrating seasonal, artisanal, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. From our handmade pastas and vegetable-forward sharing plates to our house-cured meats, butcher cuts, and rotisserie prime rib of Alberta beef, we take a back to basics, back to flavour approach by evolving simple ingredients.     Service was bad. Our waiter especially was just bothersom. It was just busy and felt impersonal. Food was OK, but the value wasn't there. The price point required either higher quality or bigger portions, but instead, it was just small portions of mid-quality. Maybe it was just a bad night but was a let down and a mood killer.

    My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine’s day and got their Valentine’s Day menu set. The zucchini salad and scallops was a delicious way to start the evening. The prime rib main course was delicious. And finally the chocolate crunch dessert was the best way to end our date. Will definitely be back!

    Awesome early Valentine’s experience. Food was really unique and top notch. Service was perfect. It was neat to see how the team worked together seamlessly. Ambience was great as well. Thanks for a great evening!

    I would like to give a 5⭐️ review. The food, staff, ambience was great. But, I chose CHARCUT in the University District because they were listed as a participant in the Burger-it-Forward initiative by Cdn Beef Farmers to raise money for Cdn Food Banks. A noble cause. When we arrived none of the service staff were aware of this despite it being midway through a month long fundraiser. However, I do acknowledge and appreciate that the kitchen staff did provide an exceptional burger even though it was not on the menu.

    We have always enjoyed Charcut since it opened in University District, however, the last few times it has not been a positive experience. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived yet it took time for someone to serve us. It appeared the server was also the bartender. Three different people attended to us during our meal and they seemed very disengaged. We ordered the Bistecca medium rare. When it arrived, it was medium and very tough to cut. The portion was small even though the price was not. We had to ask for dessert menus and ordered our favourite the Portuguese Doughnuts and when they arrived they were hard not the soft melt-in-your-mouth doughnuts from before. I hope that Charcut can correct the issues as it used to be one of our go-to restaurants.

    We dined at Charcut UD when it first opened and it was fantastic. Food quality and presentation have declined significantly since then. Hard to justify going back given the cost of the meal. Hopefully they can back to their previous standards.

    Our waitress was exceptional! It was my friend’s birthday and the treats were great. We were very well treated. Noise was quite loud but other than that, no complaints!! Highly recommend going there and I will be back
