Focusing predominately on fresh local seafood with a French, Lowcountry flare, Charlie’s is the place for good food, good wine and unforgettable memories all enjoyed in a quaint French country atmosphere.

A Savannah native, Charlie Golson’s interest in the French language and culture took him to Paris. After a long stint in the fast paced hotel kitchens of Washington DC, he was ready to move back closer to home. It was at that time he was able to open up a one room French bistro. The restaurant has grown over the years, but the ‘Green Star’ remains steadfast in offering the finest ingredients the Low country has to offer with a menu that is hand written daily. Resort Casual.

As usual, the food was very good along with excellent service. There is a reason why Charlies is always ranked in the top 5 restaurants in the area. Always busy, but always good. They know how to satisfy their guests by maintaining excellence in execution of all they do. If you like seafood and haven't tried Charlies, you are missing one of the best dining experiences in the area.

Charlies never disappoints! The food is always well prepared and presented. I had the fish special grilled with salad for lunch...perfect! I've never had a bad meal and the service is always impeccable. I love sitting in the bar for happy hour too!

Charlies Coastal remains our favorite restaurant on HHI. Patrick and Pam always greet us upon arrival and make sure our evenings go well. We have gotten to know Michelle, Jody ,Tammy and Heather during the many years we have been going here. They set the highest standard for the newer servers and we have never had a bad meal or less than “stellar” experience!! We typically spend all February and often 2 weeks in the fall. We look forward to at least 2 evenings a week at Charlies Coastal during every visit to HHI. John and Kathy Taylor.

Jodie our waitress was outstanding as always. My wife and I took my sister and brother tonight for their birthday’s. My brother said it was one of the best restaurants he has been too. Service is superb.

Charlie’s is the best restaurant on Hilton Head Island (in my opinion, obviously). Three of us ate there this evening. We all had fish – sheepshead, swordfish, trout. Fabulous presentations. Three appetizers: New England clam chowder, lump crab salad, pate, all excellent. Three desserts, all excellent. Our waitress was fabulous, as they have all been every time I’ve eaten there. Excellent wine list. Half-price bottles on Mondays. Hard to beat. Lovely ambience in the room. I highly recommended Charlie’s if you like good seafood (I’m not talking about heavily fried fish and chips).

Wonderful experience at charlies. Food is well prepared and presented. Wait staff (Michelle) was excellent even though she seemed stretched thin. Overall highly recommended.

This was our second year visiting Charlies. Last year we ate in the bar at a high-top table, which was really fun. This year we ate in the dining room and had an equally great time. The vibe here is really good, with the hostess and servers being so positive and upbeat, making for a fun evening. The food is also outstanding. I highly recommend Charlies.
