   The service and ambiance is always top notch!! The flatbread pizza was delicious. Overall, my husband and I love the restaurant and the staff so we’ll be back during our stay at the Mauna Kea.

   The atmosphere is wonderful, and the server, Beverly, was exceptional. We were seated immediately. We love the Malasadas, best on the island by far. Dishes at our table were diverse, each one properly prepared with the freshest ingredients, in a timely manner. You can NOT beat the views. This is one of our favorite restaurants.

   Single woman traveler, looking for great food at a great value. This experience fell a little short. It wasn’t bad or anything, but here are some thoughts: 1. The sashimi sampler is 4 fish, but it’s 3 pieces of each fish. Way more than I expected. The tuna was great. The other fish were good, but I didn’t love the texture, kind of chewy! 2. The cauliflower was excellent. If I had a toaster oven in my room I would have brought left overs home. Highly recommend. 3. The hearts of palm salad was also excellent. Where I went wrong was adding grilled fish. Since I wasn’t expecting the sashimi to be so large I wanted more protein. The fish was exceptionally dry and flavorless. 4. The wine by the glass list was just ok, but I had a New Zealand Sauvignon blanc. I should have got the Sancerre. Overall, I give the food 3 possibly a 3 1/2 because I did really like the salad and the cauliflower. If you have a big party, I think the sashimi platter would be a good thing to share. The ambience was great & the sunset was also beautiful.  Complementary valet is provided. Overall, the cost of this one meal for one person with one glass of wine, one appetizer, one salad with a protein, and a sashimi platter totaled $114. I think that’s a little bit expensive for something that I would call good.  Also the waitress asked me how I liked everything and I told her all of this, but she didn’t take the fish that I didn’t eat with the salad off the bill or even offer another solution. Given how expensive the meal was, I expected some acknowledgment at the very least. Otherwise, it wasn’t a bad experience. Pretty good food that was really expensive while watching a beautiful sunset. Bon appétit!!!

   We enjoyed a nice sunset dinner. We were not staying at the property, but were able to get a same-day reservation through OpenTable. We were pleased with the service, ambience and menu. We look forward to our next visit here!

   This place has incredible ambience and views. It’s a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the sounds and sights of the big island. The food is pretty good too, but we would go even if the food was average!

   I enjoyed the night. It is nice that the hotel now lets local residents enjoy its restaurant. During the holidays, it is just for guests. The property is still under construction, and the grounds are a mess. The food was good. However, the service was very, very slow. I had to look around for the server often.
