Our anniversary experience was quite good although we were situated in a remote part of the restaurant when more appealing window views were available elsewhere. Food was well presented and generally ideal but the lamb took quite a bit of chewing. The hake was delicious! We had a main course and dessert only. No wine. £100 was quite pricey. Thanks for the complimentary Prosecco!

Hi we had a lovely experience but one small complaint was the scones were fairly hard and dry. But everything else was fabulous

We were staying at the hotel (which in itself we were happy with) so opted for the bar menu in the evening. My husband had a pizza from the wood fired pizza on the terrace and I had fish and chips which was quite nice. For the pizzas they charged £2 a topping and he chose 3 including fresh basil. For this he got 4 small leaves put on before the pizza was cooked. The pizza was quite small and burnt and the total price was £18. Really disappointing. The desert was also pretty poor. To make it worse we found that having paid in advance at the bar a 12.5% service charge had already been added, including to the cost of the bottle of wine. We had to ask 3 times for some water, food for our party of 4 arrived at different times , the vinegar for my fish and chips came in a filthy bottle and smelled horrible (they did take it away and find some more). I object to paying for service before we have even received it and even more so when the service was really poor. Some of the young staff were doing their best but there was no one to coordinate or oversee them. Because we were staying at the hotel we felt we were a captive audience and wouldn’t eat there again.

Lovely cream tea seated in the conservatory as requested. Very good service and birthday balloon placed on table as per request. Great ambience and vista to enjoy. Very chilled. Thankyou so much, had a great afternoon.

A disheveled restaurant, (some tables weren't set up, others had no chairs). Ambience of an empty hall. Nice views over the gardens and the countryside. The Sample Restaurant menu wasn't available. Instead, we were presented with what looked like a pub menu that was limited, difficult to navigate and with poor food descriptions. I ordered two small dishes one of them being a smoked salmon salad (I thought), but I was presented with smoked salmon sandwiches. Our disappointing experience was shared with the next table of six people, celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary who commented they had to resort to pizza as they couldn't find any appealing alternative. Members of staff were busy with a wedding next door so the service was poor to say the least. There was no one in the restaurant looking after us while we were having dinner. When the food arrived we had to ask and wait to get some cutlery as they had forgotten it (even though the table was previously booked). Our dirty plates were left on the table for a long time and we were offered to look at the dessert menu before the table was cleared (which we obviously didn't). After having to wait to ask for the bill, we were asked to go to pay to the bar as they were busy setting up tables for breakfast. All in all not a very enjoyable experience!

I booked the afternoon tea deal last year for my daughter's birthday. This year they had put the prices up without letting me know and also added a hefty 12.5 % service charge to the bill. So the overall bill was considerably higher than expected. Also, the service was extremely slow. I had 1 pot of 'unlimited' coffee and we had to ask for water etc to go with the tea. We were just completely forgotten about once the tea had been delivered to the table. The only serving staff who made the experience was a lovely older gentleman who boxed up the rest of our cakes and had a chat with us when we asked for the bill. I would not repeat this experience again
