Booked for a mid-week lunch. £30 per head fee if a no-show seems a bit steep to me, but I would never just not turn up. Phoned me in advance to check Festive or ordinary menu, which was good. Anyway, friendly welcome and shown to a table. Not busy at all. Nice interior, typical country pub feel. Shame about the rather irritating piped music coming from the speaker right above our table – is it necessary? Service was friendly but food a little disappointing for me, considering the price. Lasagne was small and rather runny with very little mince in it – mostly bechemel sauce I think. Other dishes were ok but nothing had the wow factor.

Sunday lunch after a lovely dog walk. The main restaurant/bar area was packed but we had a table in the back restaurant room which was otherwise empty and suited us fine. Our weary spaniel curled up on the floor. The waitress was super friendly and attentive even though we were away from the main action. The roasts - we had pork and chicken - were both just fabulous. Lots of meat and veggies and plump Yorkshire puddings piled up on the plates. I loved the pudding option of a coffee and mini-pudding which was the perfect size after the chunky main course. Altogether excellent and we will definitely be back.

It was the fourth time we’ve eaten here and every time previously was five star each time This time though they had tech issues so our order was wrong then the bill was wrong and the employees where very stressed I do recommended people try it as it genuinely is a brilliant pub I just hope they get the tech issues sorted

I would say that the staff at the Crown & Horn were less then accommodating. A friend and I met here for lunch on Sunday (also happened to be Father's Day) and we were met with a fixed Fathers Day menu (no mention of this at the time of booking) . Whilst the menu on offer was good, we had the option of Starter & Main for £21 then dessert if wanted for £5. However, my friend was keen to have a couple of starters only and I was hoping for dinner & dessert. Our waiter explained that this was not possible because the till wouldn't accept this!! So we were forced to have starter and dinner at the very least, if this was explained at booking there would be no issue as we wouldn't have gone there. Food was ok, very rushed service and tea was stewed! Unfortunately we will not be returning.

Good Food, Good service, historic surroundings and ambience. Only minor glitch was that the table wobbled (oneshort or long leg. We understand the floor is not smoothly level, so apreicate this may not be a simple glitch to fix. We travelled to East Ilsey from Hertfordshire and South Wales, but would happily meet there again.

Good local pub that always makes an effort and deserves support. Nicely decorated, well run, food well priced, feel welcomed whether it's quiet or busy.

We went here for a landmark wedding anniversary lunch and it was faultless. We were welcomed warmly and with congratulations, seated quickly and from there the service was engaging, the right balance of timely but not rushed and the food was fantastic. We were made to feel very welcome, making it a highly memorable meal.

Our roast beef was over cooked and the vegetables needed more cooking, but both were replaced without a fuss. Would be happy to return.

Have eaten here previously and really enjoyed it but hadn’t realised that the owners have changed. On arrival we were told there were no draught beers due to an electrical fault which was fine then several elements from the menu were not available but offered cauliflower cheese in lieu of the Yorkshire pudding. Website suggested a wider menu available but there was purely a 3 course set menu with no option to just have one or two courses. Drinks arrived- my daughter’s glass of water tasted of detergent. Starters - salads etc all straight from the fridge so too cold and lacking flavour. Also some of the advertised ingredients were missing with no explanation or apologies. Mains - pie and mash good but not much to get wrong with that to be fair. Prawn curry tasteless and again missing items which we were then told had run out . Roast beef - cold meat. Sent back to sort and came back still cold. Server said she would take something off the bill. We then heard table behind us bring told that they could just have a main course if they wanted- only just over 1/2 hour after we had been told that wasn’t an option. We skipped dessert on the basis of what we had already eaten. I went to settle the bill and although the roast beef had been taken off, the cauliflower cheese which we had been told was a replacement for part of the roast meal had been added on as a separate option. Overall a thoroughly disappointing experience for Easter Sunday. Given that the booking option through this ties you in to going or being charged £30/head it would have been simple and polite to have messaged us and said how much was unavailable . Unfortunately we will not be returning

We came as a couple 2 months ago . Loved it thought it was amazing , brilliant food , massive portions was fantastic. We came with family on Sunday and were disappointed. Over £15 for roast chicken Sunday dinner and it was 2 tiny chicken thighs. Cauliflower cheese was undercooked, feel like the table we had (table 4) was in a corridor. Was such a different experience from the first time . Shame as overall it’s a lovely pub
