Dirty French NY is a bistro experience created by Major Food Group, located in the Ludlow Hotel on Manhattan’s storied Lower East Side. The menu takes its culinary cues from the timeless dishes of classic French tradition and gives them an exciting, “dirty” twist using modern techniques and bold, thrilling flavors. In the same way the dishes “come alive” with flavor, the restaurant itself swells with energy as the hours lead into late night, featuring some of New York’s greatest playlists and a staff equally as vibey.

Service was great. Food was meh. Wine choices were meh. The salad I ordered was smothered in dressing and could barely taste the lettuce. The main courses, chicken and filet of sole, were so drenched in butter, it made the dish taste way too heavy. French fries were soggy and tasteless.

I came for the duck and it was as amazing as I thought it would be. The cocktail was delicious and I don’t drink, normally. Bread was perfection and the oysters were superb. Beignets we’re almost as delicious as Cafe Du Monde overall a perfect dinning experience . The staff made my experience dining alone delightful.

Food was simple and reasonably well-prepared. The main dishes, pan roasted half chicken and bavette with fries, were fine. Appetizers and dessert were disappointing. The service seemed chaotic. Perhaps they were under-staffed, but the restaurant was far from full. It took a lot of prodding to get our bottle of wine from the cellar to our table. The ambiance was vey nice.
