Set in the heart of downtown Redwood City, Donato Enoteca offers true and honest contemporary Italian cuisine from Executive Chef Donato Scotti that changes weekly determined by the freshest available seasonal produce. Homemade pastas, wood-burning oven pizzas, meat and fish courses are available, executed in an authentic yet modern way. The menu spans every region of Italy and incorporates artisanal products, such as fresh imported burrata, prosciutto, grappa and olive oil. A long family history of growing Nebbiolo grapes coupled with a great appreciation for the soil of Barbaresco underpins the qualities of the wine made by Cantina del Pino. "We make our wines out of the classic Piedmontese grape varietals: Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto". The Vacca family has been living and working the vines at Cantina del Pino, one of the oldest estates in Barbaresco, since the 1920s when Giuseppe Vacca, bought the property from his friend, the legendary agronomist and director of the Royal Enological School in Alba, Domizio Cavazza.     I had the vegetarian menu, my husband had the ahi tuna, the raviolis, and the beef with polenta. The savory courses were really good (although the soup could have used a little more salt — I felt awkward asking for some since there were sat shakers on the table.) The dessert was not very good and I would skip. Will definitely be coming back again!

    I love Donato Enoteca and have been going there for years. This last Sunday, I took my wife and my mother and was incredibly disappointed in the food. The Wild boar crostini was dry and lacked flavor. The meatballs were also dry. My mother had to send back her branzino as it was "mushy". Likely a piece of fish that should have been thrown out. The sausage on the pizza tasted like hamburger. The agnoloti was great as always and the service was very good. Just felt like they were cleaning out the freezer with food that should have been thrown out. Very disappointing overall.

    This is such a reliably delicious restaurant and I’m glad it’s thriving. Service is great, nduja pizza is great, and the wine list is clearly crafted by someone who loves the variety and value of lesser known varietals and regions. A1!
