Originally opened in 2005, Garrett Harker’s flagship restaurant has reopened its doors just up Beacon St. only three blocks from its original location. Eastern Standard continues to offer seasonally focused New England interpretations of classic brasserie fare, including raw bar and charcuterie, nostalgic favorites like steak tartare, baked rigatoni, steak frites, and butterscotch bread pudding, and some new soon-to-be-instant-classic dishes. Cocktail legend Jackson Cannon has crafted a beverage menu that features an array of craft cocktails both new and classic, a curated selection of wines, and craft beers from near and far.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Acclaimed brasserie Eastern Standard is back and better than ever at the Bower complex. Snag a seat at the oyster shell-inspired bar or in the mahogany-decked dining room for longtime favorites like the baked rigatoni and roasted bone marrow, plus the same showstopping cocktails that earned the restaurant accolades from Esquire and Tales of the Cocktail.

Christmas prix fixe dinner continues to be a fabulous treat with culinary gems for all tastes. Standout dishes and warm, knowledgeable service. Looking forward to returning throughout the year.

Wonderful experience, great service and great food. It was a bit too loud for me and made conversation difficult.

We ate here on Christmas so our choices were very limited as they offered a prefixed menu. The complimentary bread they brought out before our food was absolutely delicious and probably the best part of the meal! One of us chose the golden beet burrata for the appetizer which was very good, and the other chose the four cheese pasta which was extremely dry and flavorless. For the main dish one of us had the prime rib which was tender and tasty and just the way I ordered it. The other had the lobster pasta which was a huge portion but again was bland and had only three tiny bites of lobster in the entire dish! We felt this was a complete rip off for the price. For dessert one of us had the creme brulee which was perfect - some of the best I've ever had, and the other had the fudge brownie with gingerbread ice cream. This again was a huge portion but was far too sweet to be served with gingerbread ice cream. We felt the ice cream should have been vanilla and the brownie was covered in syrup when it was already so sweet this was definitely not necessary! The restaurant is beautiful, the service was impeccable, but we felt the food was pre-made and just waiting in the back as most of our entrees were not very hot. I am not from around here so if I come back I would definitely not eat here again as there are so many options in Boston. However, if I lived local I would definitely give it another chance.

Food was just OK, prices were reasonable. At first they wanted to seat us by the restrooms, that is really not so good, we ended up sitting by the entrance. This was a little bit better in my opinion but then servers never came by to refill water or check on us, that was really disappointing. It is also a shame that plates and silverware were dirty and stained. I think we really expected a lot from this place. We liked many things but there were details that made a special night more of a regular “standard” night.

We were seated next to the main door with cold air blowing into our face every 5 minutes. They should not be offering reservations for this seating.

ES presents itself as an upscale French restaurant. It is pricy. Te interior of the restaurant is pleasant. It is noisy enough that it's difficult having a conversation across the table. The food is bad. Three of us ordered the "plat du jour " for Saturdays - braised short ribs. The point of braising meat is so that it is TENDER when eaten. In our cases, we got three hockey pucks of beef that we could not slice with the table knifes provided. We borrowed another persons steak knife so we could saw through the beef. Chewing the beef was an Olympian task. None of us finished our short rib entrees. The chocolate cake for dessert was good but I assume it was from an outside bakery. Very disappointing experience.
