About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for scenic views
  • Great for creative cocktails
Nestled high above LoHi on the fifth floor of 2930 Umatilla, El Five boasts spectacular, unobstructed views of the downtown Denver skyline. The menu is an homage to the Mediterranean and features small plates built on bold flavors found throughout the region: Spain, North Africa, the Middle East.

Inside, the space is understated and sensual, flanked by a large, open-air patio for sun-kissed Colorado nights. As the newest restaurant in the Edible Beats family, El Five celebrates the confluence of flavors, ideas and geographies made possible by a subtle shift in perspective.

Food was very good. Portions were surprising, we left quite full. Having a table booked 2 months in advance, bar seating was a bit of a let down. Service was fine. Nothing that tipped the scale either way. I would say it’s worth checking out but not sure it was worth the hype.

We visited El Five for the first time during Denver restaurant week (Wednesday evening). It was busy! And our waitress said that it is usually busy. It was filled with diners like ourselves, older couples trying a new restaurant, but primarily catered to a young, upwardly mobile crowd. Despite how busy it was the service was terrific and the noise level was surprisingly fine. The meal began with an amuse bouche composed of quince jam, prosciutto and blue cheese on a slice of baguette, which, for my tastes, the quince jam made it a bit too sweet for me. As an appetizer my husband had the Lebanese garlic dip, a hummus like dish, and I had the Patatas Brava with chorizo (I did not notice the chorizo). For our mains, my husband had the pork loin which was tender and tasty; I had the sea bass. The sea bass was cooked appropriately (meaning it was not overcooked), however, when you are serving sea bass, the fish should speak for itself. In this case the sea bass had a hot/spicy coating that detracted from the meal rather than enhancing it. Desserts were lovely and we enjoyed a bottle of white wine from the Duoro region of Portugal; nice and light.

We had a great meal. We enjoyed the restraint week menu. Ambiance was very pleasant and not too loud. Bar service was exceptional. All in all a fun night.

To start the meal, we ordered a couple of different cocktails. They were both yummy & fun, served in beautiful glasses with unique ice cubes. The 4 of us ordered all the restaurant week specials (to share across the table) plus a couple of other dishes from the regular menu. All of the appetizers and main courses were exceptional. The dessert course was our least favorite. We though a couple of the desserts were just OK; the baklava was great, The views from the restaurant can't be beat. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We hadn't been to El Five for a couple of years, and we all wondered why it took us so long to return. What a totally enjoyable experience!

The view of downtown Denver was beautiful.the food was interesting and unusual, but it took forever to get the food. It was an hour before our first bites arrived.

Enjoyed a terrific dinner here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Beautiful view of the city, excellent food. We had the prix fixe restaurant week menu, every dish was better than the next. Obviously a lot of time and care goes into the selection of ingredients and suppliers Deja was our server, she is very knowledgeable and helpful/ wish all servers were more like Deja !
