About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Neighbourhood gem
Reservations are open for dinner only, lunch is walk ins only.

What’s in the name you ask? We don’t really know, other than the fact that it has a good ring to it.

Nothing really about this place makes much sense. Are we a butcher shop or a restaurant? Are we a butcher shop inside of a restaurant? Or a restaurant inside of a butcher shop?

In our spare time we like to build fires and cook food over wood, you can hire us to do that. We make all of our own charcuterie in house, and we’re determined to get better at that everyday.

How do two concepts operate together in harmony? We don’t really know yet, but we will work at it ‘til it’s seamless. One thing we do know, all of the meat served and sold between these four walls is strictly derived from whole animals butchered in-house, sourced from happy places.

Sadly, after reading great reviews and waiting weeks to try out Fat Rabbit for an important birthday celebration, our dining experience was a BIG, BIG disappointment. The tables are too closely spaced and the chairs hard and heavy - uncomfortable. We had read this, but when met with the reality of just how close they were, were still shocked. The menu was a confusing and because the waiter mumbled quickly whilst explaining it we really didn't understand and, although we saw some potentially interesting looking dishes being delivered to patrons, couldn't figure out which ones these were on the menu. Raw meat portions were carried to tables and displayed to patrons - a bit silly & pretentious, but maybe that's just Fat Rabbit's way of adding to the common practice of showcasing the quality of its offerings in refrigerated cases. Anyway, my partner and I ordered only burgers and accepted to order a side of potatoes ($16 for two fried potatoes??!!). The waiter disappeared for a while. After some time, a second person brought our food. The meat was very plain, flavourless, and somewhat dry -- I have had better meals ordering smash burgers in Toronto or at an airport waiting lounge in Texas. Disappointed, we finished only half our meals and requested the bill. No wait staff inquired as to why we had abandoned our meals. The second person brought the bill, then, just before we paid and were preparing to leave our waiter reappeared and asked my husband, whilst strolling quickly by, if he would like a complimentary birthday dessert. No, thank you! At least the tinned beer and seltzer we ordered were nice. But, overall... we do not recommend this dining establishment.

I highly recommend Fat Rabbit. We had an array of meat and vegetable dishes and none of them disappointed. Our server Mat was knowledgeable, friendly and made it look easy. We will be back!

Our group of ladies shared a few small plates and wine. Everything was delicious. Knowledgeable and attentive service. My favourite was the burrata with arugula and white asparagus as well as the foie gras. Nice ambience. We were able to enjoy our conversation and fresh air. We agreed, we will be back

Every food item we had was great! Everything was super high quality, and very uniquely flavoured. The sauces that accompanied each dish were amazing! Very original. I love that they use hyper local producers. The cheeseburger is probably the best burger in the city, and the charcuterie board we assembled was maybe the best I've ever had. My only complaint is the cocktails lacked a little flavour, and seemed just a little too watery, but still interesting concepts nonetheless. Also I put a note saying it was my girlfriend's birthday, and expected perhaps some sort of complimentary dessert, or amuse bouche, or perhaps even an acknowledgement... Especially at the price we paid, but perhaps the note wasn't seen. Regardless, the meal was exceptional, and we'll certainly be back!

The entire dining experience was great from start to finish! Our waiter was very very knowledgeable and helped us order exactly what we wanted. The wine was great as was the dirty martini. We got a bunch of things to split and then ended with the sticky pudding which is a must! 10/10 would recommend. One of the best meals I’ve had!

Very disappointed right from arrival. Found the service lacking, and meal very disappointing. Steak was tough and definitely not the top grade as we expected. Food arrived cold to the table. The veggie portions were extremely small but had good flavour. However when considered in light of the price once again disappointing. Won’t consider going back. Have no idea how it received a Michelin rating.

Although the food was very tasty the sides were not shareable for four people and very expensive. We chose the Asparagus for $24 and there may have been about 8 spears on the plate. We also chose the Tempura mushrooms, of which there were four on the plate, some bigger than others, one each $23. We chose the sirloin and the Denver cut steaks, both very good but I left there hungry. For four people you probably need four vegetable plates and 3 steaks. If you are adding cocktails for four people you are looking at over $300. I can go to my local butcher and get a prime steak for $50.
