   Lovely, tasty roast chicken - could have been a bit hotter though - that’s my only negative about it. Very tasty. Lovely setting and would go again

   2nd time there. Extremely dog friendly. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back next time we are in the area

   Food was excellent and well worth the wait. The wait, well I would say on a busy Mother’s Day serving 5 courses and garden open too, they should have had more staff. I noticed the servers and kitchen weren’t communicating very well causing us to wait roughly an hour for 1st and 2nd course to arrive. We had to ask for dessert and coffee to come at the same time, as our bottoms were numb. Total time in the restaurant was 2.5hours. They were understanding about us wanting to take the service charge off. If you are looking for a slow afternoon with amazing food and gardens this is your place, but we will be back.

   We booked for the five course Mother’s Day special menu with champagne on arrival. Champagne on arrival it wasn’t. Had to ask for it twice at 15 minute intervals. Shown to our seats and then just ignored until I got up to complain. First course was artisan breads which again we had to ask for and arrived after having been sat down for fifty minutes. I have to say the Ham hock terrine was superb, however the main course of roast beef was very ordinary with only two small slices of beef and a huge whole undercooked carrot! Sweet was sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which was nice, followed by coffee and truffles. The restaurant had obviously overstretched themselves on what was a lovely sunny day. Service charge was waived, which was just as well.

   The Filly Inn, wonderful food, totally enjoyed the Mother’s Day menu £40 per person. The pub was fully booked, parking was a bit iffy and rammed. Table was great. Service was very slow unfortunately, lunch took 3 hours and we gave up on waiting for the final course of coffee. Waitress was polite and friendly but overstretched, stuff forgotten and slow making the 12.5% service charge added onto the bill painful to pay. There was no explanation of the service charge or checking that we were happy to pay it, it was just assumed and the total put into the card reader making any challenge of it potentially embarrassing. Food was great but we won’t go there to eat again on 12.5% service charge basis. I tip, I always tip but I would prefer to be in control of my tipping and not be intimidated to pay it.

   My wife and I had the calamari starter. My wife had the roast belly pork, I had roast beef. The quality of the food was first class. My wife cannot have food onto which butter has been directly applied, and this was resolved immediately without any issues. The service was quick and the waitress very attentive and friendly. The roast at The Filly is by far the best in Brockenhurst.

   Second time visiting but a little disappointed this time. Meals were warm and not hot as if they had been sitting for a while. We ate at 12:00pm before it was busy. No one asked how our meal was during main course. Perhaps it was an off day but for the reasons given I declined the discretionary 12.5% service charge.

    We asked a couple of questions about the menu and our server didn’t know the answers. more in house training perhaps would be helpful. Fresh menu cards also would be nice, ours was scruffy looking. However we did enjoy ourselves and we thought The Filly was a lovely place. We will recommend it.
