First visit with a bad experience. The food was very well cooked. Good ingredients, decent location, facilities were decent for a small pub by the sea. But was let down as we waited nearly an hour for Seabass. If the kitchen was backed up we would have appreciated the warning early on so we could decide if we were willing to wait or grab fast food elsewhere as we had to eat and run to get to our plans afterwards.

Sea food platter to share was very good lots on the plate. But could have done with small bowls of water to wash our hands after eating, especially the shelled king prawns. Also ice cream was tasteless and gloppy.

The only place we go to eat when in Maldon. Freshly cooked food, excellent service at a reasonable price.

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime in early August to celebrate a couple of birthdays. We had booked and were offered a table inside the restaurant (pub?) which was all but empty while it was a nice day outside. We asked if we could be seated outside to be able to enjoy the weather and to watch the world go by. We were told very rudely "If there's a table out there then you can eat out there, but you can't run a tab and you have to order at the bar". We did as we were told, trying to make light of the rudeness. To be fair, it was only one of the staff who had this unfortunate attitude. We ordered drinks at the bar and then our food - "There's a 30 minute wait" the rude server told us. Dressed Crab, Mussels, and a fish and chips. Turned out there were no mussels left, so we ordered another fish and chips. The food, when it arrive (not as long as 30 minutes) was ok, but only ok. My mother's fish and chips was overdone and dry. Mine was less well cooked, but still rather bland and fish was dry. The whole experience was rather disappointing. We cut our losses and left to eat an ice cream elsewhere. It would hurt any of the staff to crack a smile and perhaps a lesson in manners and customer service wouldn't go amiss.

Average at best , I really wanted to like this place as i love fish and new to the area so thought this would be a local go to for me , unfortunately not , service was incredibly slow but that was probably down to the bar staff ordering the one waitress here there and everywhere , the food was soo over done with garlic and oil no pun intended but my fish dishes were swimming in it , didn’t get time to order desert as they shut the kitchen at not long after 8 ! The menu had potential but was poorly executed in my opinion
