   Did not have a good experience - our dinner took well over 3 hours and our waiter was already not the best but handled the bill and gift card situation poorly and kept us waiting over 20 min trying to work out applying a gift card to part of the bill. Also - we were for a birthday which I specified prior and on the reservation and nothing done.

   For many years, I have enjoyed going to the Gandy Dancer to celebrate important events in my life. In the case of appearance on Friday, March 28th, the occasion was our marriage anniversary. Since I haven't selected beef prime rib recently, I ordered the 10 oz. portion and I specified that I would like it cooked to a medium level. The plate that arrived clearly showed that little attention had been paid to that request. However, the worst part was the fact that at least 1/3 of the meat was pure animal fat. I carefully cut all of this away but it certainly showed me that eating roast beef at the Gandy Dancer was a very bad idea that I will never repeat. Given the level of quality and the expense, I am very unlikely to make reservations for the Gandy Dancer again. Carl W. Akerlof

   We celebrated my birthday with our children and grandchildren and enjoyed a lovely meal that everyone enjoyed. Our grandkids loved the hot bread and really loved the Brie appetizer. Our server, Zoe, allowed them to order something from the children’s menu even though they are not little, but they are vegetarians and appreciated being able to order macaroni along with salads on the adult menu. That was very kind of her and we appreciate that. Our food was tasty and there were nice portions, and Zoe offered excellent suggestions. They brought a Crème Brûlée for dessert along with a candle. Overall, it was a lovely night!

   The new ahi sushi roll from the appetizer list was Amazing! Our waiter Matthew was on his game. The best service we’ve received at Gandy in quite some time. Not that we’ve had poor service in the past, Matthew’s positive attitude, knowledge of the menu and attention to detail doesn’t come along too often when dining out anymore. Martha’s salad is always the best and we ordered the Parmesan encrusted Snapper(always a hit) and the shrimp- crab and spinach pasta, both very good.

   The restaurant was pretty busy tonight but we got to our reserved table for 4 at our reservation time. We were seated by the window near the tracks and were lucky to see 2 trains rumble by to the cheers of the guests, a pretty cool experience! Food and desserts were all great and server was friendly and helpful! Prices were reasonable and less than other seafood restaurants we’ve been to, so all in all, it was a great night out with friends!

   We love and have always loved the Gandy Dancer. Last Friday, there was a minor problem in that my Caesar salad had only one anchovy. One! And I was so looking forward to more! Should have mentioned it to our excellent waiter but didn't. Will next time should that happen again. See you next month! Keep up the wonderful work you do!!!

   Great food and atmosphere. They were great with modifications of our party size and delays of our party arriving from the airport. Never rushed and taken well care of last night. Highly recommend and don’t miss on Charley’s soup. Outstanding

    It started when the valet parker stopped traffic at the cross walk for us to cross the street safely. Gandy Dancer is located in a converted railway station right off the campus of UM and we were seated at a 2 top by the window looking out on the tracks of the old Michigan Central Railway. The charm of the building was exceeded by the charm of our server Zoe, whose friendly and informed manner added to our dining experience. On our dinner visit, the lobster bisque and the Lake Superior-caught fish special was outstanding. We enjoyed the place so much that we returned the following day for lunch. The high point of this meal seemed to be the signature dynamite scallop dish which involved a savory sauced crab topping. We had casually mentioned to Zoe that we would never order a crabcake outside of my native Maryland (for obvious reasons), which may have been why sous chef Lauren came out to chat with us. Shortly afterwards, we were presented with a gratis house crabcake, which made me eat my words, as well as the crabcake. The dish had a luscious crabcake base, which was topped with backfin crab and resting on a pool of seriously mouthwatering sauce. Executive Chef Mark A. Sanchez came out to receive our heartfelt congratulations. Don't miss this place if you are in Ann Arbor!
