   My 50th Birthday weekend. We came to Gars after a recommendation from a friend. The whole experience of this restaurant was amazing. The food was excellent, the service was amazing asking how long we wanted to wait between courses. And finally the the bill was very fair. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Brighton.

   Something was badly wrong last night at this restaurant. Service was all but non-existent. The booking app specified we would be able to have the table for 1 hour and 45 minutes - but it took nearly two hours for the restaurant to produce our main course. The food was good but the experience overall miserable. We witnessed diners from other tables also complain to waiters and management as we made our way out. We will not be coming back.

   Another lovely meal at Gars, the food is consistently excellent and the service efficient and friendly. We will be back.

   For the price you expect more. The decor is tired and needs a refurb. The prices have gone up significantly, even the open table menu is not up to date and shows lower prices. They add service but still have the option of adding a tip. It should be one of the other, not both. Food wasn’t bad, but wasn’t great either. For a dish they are charging £15 for you can get for £8.50 elsewhere. Yes I know you are eating in a prime Brighton location but then at least make the higher prices worthwhile. They simply aren’t. It feels as though they are squeezing a profit over quality. But it’s not all bad. The service was very very friendly and attentive! Really good. Shame they were selling over priced average food.

   food disappointing,duck very dry,sauces in dishes overall salty,would not go back,it's used to be so nice but less then average food and makes you feel dehydrated.Pork belly over fried and dry and crab same, waste of money for a Birthday.

   It was for a birthday celebration and drinks were v slow initially. In fact we got our food first!!!! The quality of the food wasn’t brilliant and not how it used to be. Squid chewy, sizzling steak asked for med/rare- was well done. No concessions although the insinuation was for free drinks which didn't materialise. Been going to this restaurant for years and has always been good up until now but this will be the last time. What a shame!

    Salt and pepper squid encased in rock-hard batter. Ditto soft shell crabs. Wontons almost certainly bought in from wholesaler. Waiter pleasant but largely absent. Had to go find him to order more wine etc.
