    We arrived at gyu-kaku to find out that their heat was not working! It was 16 degrees last night. We arrived a bit early for our reservation so we ordered drinks at the bar and my brother could literally see his breath indoors. Then we noticed a heat lamp over by the door. We figured maybe it was just because the front door kept opening with cold air coming in. We joked that we hoped it wasn’t this cold in the restaurant but, SURPRISE! It was. They had a few space heaters scattered about but they were essentially useless. The host could have acknowledged the issue to us. We really should have been notified about the restaurant being without heat. We started warming our hands over the grill at our table like a hobo trash fire. Our waitress came over and said “sorry for the heat problem”. It clearly wasn’t her fault. Honestly I think it’s cruel to have your staff work in these conditions. I had to keep my winter hat on throughout my meal and stay huddled close to my husband. With all that said the food was delicious as always, I wouldn’t have even cancelled my reservation due to the lack of heat I would have just known to dress warmer. Lastly the women’s bathroom was gross, the was a giant smear of period blood dripping down the wall in the stall.

    We reserved a table for three but ran into a friend on our way in. I asked the receptionist if we could add our friend to our table, especially since our food and drinks hadn't arrived yet. She refused, stating that there were customers waiting, even though we assured her that having our friend join us wouldn't cause any issues. My friend even offered to be seated as a solo customer, but the receptionist made some strange comments about it not being fair to the other customers, even though he was a customer too. In the end, my friend had to leave. This was the first time I had ever encountered such a situation in a restaurant.

    The heater was broken on a 26 degrees F (-3 degrees Celsius) Boston winter night… we had to rush to finish dinner so we could get out of there. Really cold!

    Gyu-Kaku is always a treat. While it’s been a few years since I’ve been here, it seems like they’ve up their game, even though they’re always on top of their game. I highly recommend the garlic noodles with chicken as it is even better than I recalled.

    I went to different guy-kaku, I love the ambience in this restaurant. And the service was great, but the food quality was not good as before.

    This place is a lot of fun. The food is pretty basic but it is entertaining to grill it yourself, and the sauces and marinades make it quite tasty. The atmosphere is very lively. Overall, I would recommend this to go with a group of friends or family.

    3 people 6 alcoholic drinks 12 items ordered $175 Everything was great, such a fun time. 2 of us had been there before, the third had never visited and by the end loved it. Would recommend groups of 2 or 3 makes it easier to cook and serve.
