    Following the sad closure of G. Michael's in German Village a couple of years ago, we were excited to welcome a new low-country menu back in Columbus. The ambiance was warm, cozy, and inviting on a cold winter's night, and service was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, and surprisingly fast, but honestly the food was disappointing. We were a party of five, including my son and his family in town from Chicago, and although they said their meals were good, especially the tuna tartare, mine was disappointing. Both the fried green tomatoes and the salmon appeared and tasted like they were pre-packaged and frozen. The tomatoes were too uniformly and heavily breaded - not like the lightly battered and sautéed fried green tomatoes we've enjoyed in the low country of South Carolina as we expected from the restaurant's self-described cuisine. The salmon was much the same way, with a hard, crusty top - not skin - like it, too, had been pre-seasoned and packaged frozen before final preparation. With the menu's price points, we expected something more obviously fresher, prepared from scratch in house. We'll give it another go, but first impressions can be lasting ones.

    The food was amazing! Our server Nate was super helpful and knowledgeable about everything on the menu and made some great suggestions for us. Top notch restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised because we live on the east coast and were not sure about a seafood restaurant in the middle of the country!

    Visited for my boyfriend’s birthday and we had a lovely time. Nathan took great care of us. I highly recommend the crab cakes and tartare. Absolutely delicious and lovely experience.

    Our Hank’s Columbus experience was good. Food was very good. Service was disappointing. Our server was kind and polite but not warm and missed a lot of ques that in our opinion he should have caught. (We didn’t want to complain about a couple of small issues so when he took away a couple app plates that were barely touched, we were not asked about it) The restaurant also seemed inflexible to any kind of special request. (We heard “no” several times) The she crab soup was excellent. It is a beautiful restaurant and felt very Charlestonian. The female bartender last night was fabulous and incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. Her drinks were delicious and we felt very welcome at the bar. Having been to Charleston Hank’s several times, it’s nice that Columbus has one, but the southern hospitality here is definitely not the same. We would be willing to try again because several things were good or very good.

    Service was fantastic! Table service clearing plates and replacing flat ware was outstanding. Our waiters wine recommendation was spot on. Peel n Eat shrimp was so good we got more. Crazy as it sounds at a seafood restaurant, the bone in pork chop was fabulous, fire grilled, tender. Grill station hit it perfect. She Crab and Tuna Tartare were okay, Raw oysters were clean, bright and minerally especially the Spring Creeks. Ambience is casual yet upscale, love to have those finishes in my home! Will check out the Hanks in Charleston because this was so good.
