Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Had the rib roast and it honestly felt more like something you’d get at a buffet - Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes luke warm - the rib roast wasn’t much to speak of it was a bit like a salt bomb and not worth the $75 a head, side order of cauliflower cheese way too watery, not cheesy at all - love the venue, just such a shame my food experiences have always been meh here

Having moved from London, we were unsure how Hawksmoor NYC could live up to a traditional English roast. In truth, it didn’t just live up up to it. It exceeded it. Relaxed atmosphere and excellent service made us feel at home. Only area they could improve on; the people running the bar out front have some work to do on making people feel welcome. They could learn a lot from the restaurant staff.

I was so impressed with Hawksmoor. Service was attentive and helpful without being overbearing. Everything we tried was a homerun. Vietnamese-style oysters; potted beef with bacon; 14 oz strip cooked medium-rare; beef-fat fries; butter lettuce and herb salad; Peanut Butter Louis for dessert; and a variety of cocktails (note: they are deceptively strong!). Courses were timed nicely and nobody rushed us. So glad we chose to have a New Year’s Eve dinner here!

Food was very salty, beef had tremendous amount of sodium, could not taste meat flavor, wine list way overpriced, and quality of wine one list was mediocre. A good bottle of wine for $50, was nearly 3x the price. As an upscale steakhouse, with steakhouse prices, the wait staff were in jeans and jerseys.

All in all a good meal but has some room for improvement . The Scotch Bonnet and Bone Marrow oysters were delicious as was the sticky toffee pudding and the rolos. The charcoal grilling gave the sirloin steaks extra flavor although there was more gristle on the meat than I would have liked. Unfortunately the fries were somewhat spongy, rather than crisp as if they’d stayed under a heat lamp for some time. Service was friendly but slow. Prices were definitely at the higher end of NYC steakhouses. I would suggest BYOB as the corkage charge is very reasonable: $10 per bottle.

For a top notch steakhouse the service was spotty and the food was, frankly, mediocre.

We had a wonderful first visit! The hostess was incredibly charming, steak tartare and bone marrow were fabulous starters, and we enjoyed the filet and ribeye cooked medium. Our server did a wonderful job finding us a perfect wine and was very attentive throughout our visit.

I have had my eye on Hawksmoor for some time after following their UK success and was excited to try out their first US restaurant. The care they put into informing you about the different cuts and how it differs from other establishments was great. The bone marrow and onion was fantastic as well as the sourdough and cultured butter. Their ribeye offering was exquisite and the temperature was a perfect medium rare.
