   Quite simply one of the best restaurants in Manchester. Despite my last visit being a year ago, I was recognised when I walked in and warmly welcomed (how do they do that?!). The food is exquisite, as expected from a restaurant that is mentioned in the Michelin Guide, and the ambience quiet despite the level of activity in the open kitchen. Over the course of the evening I must have interacted with at least half a dozen of the staff meeting & greeting, serving, and checking how things were going, and everyone seemed to know who I was, where I was through the menu and what was next. Professional, on another level.

   Fabulous experience from start to finish. The team welcome you with such warmth and enthusiasm for what they do. I recommend putting yourself entirely in their hands and enjoying the exquisite seasonal produce and superb wines. What a wonderful evening full of smiles and outstanding food. Hospitality at its very best.

   The music was so loud I couldn't hear the descriptions of the dishes. As dusk fell, the light was so dim I couldn't see my dinner. We ordered the tasting menu - and whilst a surprise is nice - I think it's a mistake. Because I never saw a written menu, I can't remember what I had. No one dish felt 'main' and two fatty pork dishes with no other meat offerings was unfortunate. I've never had natural wine before, and the 2 I tried at Higher Ground tasted unpleasantly yeasty. I would not eat here again. I'm used to fine dining and high prices, so I am not a novice in this game.

   We did the tasting menu and all 4 of us thought the food was mediocre. I had been there before and off the menu was a lot better. Everything else was lovely but we walked away unimpressed.

    We had the surprise menu.. it was excellent with interesting combinations and plenty of flavor. Service was friendly and knowledgeable.
