Since November 2018, Fitzroy’s Gertrude Street has been home to ISH, a lively, inventive Indian restaurant. Serving up contemporary Indian cuisine, the restaurant’s ethos is rooted in the liminal: its inspirations both traditional and modern, its flavours both familiar and surprising, its spirit both global and local. It serves to represent, through food, the dynamism that so defines modern-day India. ISH is Indian-ish, yes, but also Australian; modern-ish, yes, but also classic. In short, it delivers what can only be described as ‘unexpected India.’

Simply fantastic food and service in a quiet yet atmospheric setting. We chose vegetarian dishes ( some from the Diwali special courses) and they were all great to eat. We especially loved the Dum Aloo gnocchi and the kulfi, of course!

Every dish was amazing with great flavours. Good wine list too. The service was on point with great recommendations. The only sad part was not having dined there sooner. Can’t wait for our next meal there.

There are so many second-rate Indian restaurants in Melbourne that everybody should support this one so we can have the pleasure of going back there for a long time to come.
