Factually, 76 large-scale wineries dominate the landscape and form many people's perception of wine from the USA, with over 500,000 cases being produced. 80% of wine comes from California, 17% from Oregon, Washington, and New York, and the remaining percentage from the other 46 states. The pioneering winemakers can be found from coast to coast in America, where 5,851 wineries are making less than 1,000 cases, where diversity and quality is the focus. Every time I delve into USA wines, I find wines that stun me and exciting facts and nuggets of information that make me smile! Did you know that New York pushes boundaries with cool climate winemaking? I tracked down the elusive Riesling from the Finger Lakes with my new slight obsession with Riesling! A Grenache from James Sparks, Matthiasson—I loved all his wines—white wines from Ribolla and Chenin Blanc, and three Pinot Noirs to compare from the icons of the USA.
