Chef/restaurateur John Howie's definitive NW steak house, serving custom-aged USDA Prime steaks, American Wagyu Beef, Australian Waygu beef, Japanese "A5" 100% Wagyu beef, fresh seasonal Pacific fish and seafoods, wild foraged mushrooms, and locally sourced fruits and vegetables. John Howie Steak features two wood fired grills, mesquite charcoal and applewood that add subtle flavors to the foods. The wine list features a "Best of Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator. Enjoy classic and seasonal specialty cocktails, or the world’s finest single-malt scotch, bourbons and fine cognacs in the lounge.     It was always a beautiful experience, with excellent service and great ambiance at John Howie. Special occasions or a for a date night; we love it here!! If you want to go from good to outstanding, please add different salad options and sourdough bread to your bread basket for gluten-intolerant people. Please have an attendant check on the bathrooms. The Ladies' restrooms last night were not clean.

    Been dining here for many years. It had been over a year since my last visit. Previously food and service has always been top notch. During this visit, the service was terrible in comparison to all my previous visits. Incredibly long wait to get our order taken along with any other times we needed our server. We were seated for over 30 minutes before our server came back to take our order. The server also never came back around to check on drinks, how our food was etc. At the end of the meal we sat around for over 25 minutes after finishing eating trying to find our server to get leftovers boxed. Once she finally came back it took another 20 minutes to get our food boxed. She then brought a dessert menu. We didn’t decide to order dessert and attempted to flag down our server for over 20 minutes to get our bill. Felt like we were being held hostage when we just wanted to pay and leave. I’m not sure if the change in how they pay the servers has changed the service level or what has happened. The food and service at this restaurant on all my previous visits, has always been amazing. The servers had always been very attentive even to the point that they would recognize if your drink was getting low and come back to offer another. This visit was very disappointing to say the least. I’m hoping this is a one off and not the normal service level now due to the change in how they pay the staff. The food was still amazing as it always has been. The only small thing during this visit was the steak was more on the rare side than the medium rare we ordered. Not a huge issue. The food quality overall was great!!

    We eat here for most special occasions. The past 2 times we have been here its been a different experience. For Valentines day they sat us at the worst table in the restaurant, right behind the serving station. So it was loud and busy. Our server took forever to even get to our table. Our drinks took longer than we have ever had to wait, then my husband's drink wasn't even correct. Our food was good. Prices have really increased and glasses of wine are so expensive now that i declined to order any. I also wish they had a dress code. I pay 400 for a steak while eating next to a guy in a baseball cap and white tank top.

    I have heard a lot about John Howie steaks and I must tell you, they are delicious! My dinner partner and I started out with the tempura bacon and bread basket for appetizers. The bacon is thick and it is simply fantastic. The sauce was a must try. I wish I could eat tempura bacon every day. The bread basket was a nice touch and provided a good assortment of warm bread. We also had an honeycrisp apple salad. The sweetness of the apple complemented the light dressing and greens. For our entrees, we sprang for the 8 oz. Japanese A5 Wagyu ribeyes. Of course this is one of the best steaks on the menu. I had high expectations for this steak in the hands of a steak connoisseur like John Howie. It was the best wagyu I've eaten outside of Japan. These are Miyazaki Wagyu, so you know it is quality meat. They are highly marbled, very tender, and exceptionally delicious. They had a very nice wood grilled flavor. I ordered mine medium rare, and my partner had medium. Both were cooked perfectly. We also chose the truffle fries for our side. They were awesome and they were a shareable dish. For dessert we tried the flourless volcano cake and the crème brûlée. Both were done well, but the crème brûlée was phenomenal. The ambiance is nice as it is an upscale restaurant surrounded by upscale designer stores. The music was playing and the volume was just right. The service is five star all the way. These folks work hard for the automatic 20% service charge. It's one of the few places where you truly do get exceptional service. For example, our water glasses were always full. Before they were half empty, they were magically refilled. All of the service was fast, efficient, personable and professional. I highly recommend entering the garage via 8th avenue NE. You can use the valet or use self park nearest the Amethyst elevators on level P1. Parking is validated when you check in at the restaurant. This is definitely a superb special occasion venue. I will be back.

    Absolute incredible experience. Dinner service was unmatched, extremely kind and welcoming. Food was immaculate and reasonably priced compared to alternatives in the area. Perfect experience and absolutely plan on returning! Cannot emphasize enough how good the service and food was.
