We had a 5 pm seating on the patio in back. The food was excellent. One improvement I suggest - get more help in the bar right at opening. Our cocktails took a long time to arrive.

This is now our go-to place in Berkeley for a special romantic meal. Very impressive diversity of dishes. Excellent cocktails. Great service with care taken to the order of presentation. Yet still casual and relaxed. They got it right.

J&M is such a great neighborhood restaurant. It's a treat to dine at a high-end restaurant in your neighborhood. And it presents itself as welcoming, not stodgy. Great cocktails, solid wine list, and great food in a convivial atmosphere make for a great night out.
