‘I do love a beer beside the seaside’

A much loved institution returns to the Sorrento foreshore. On the site of the storied Beer Garden & Dining Room is the new Koonya Hotel - complete with Public Bar, Lounge Bar, Bistro, Private Dining and Beer Garden. To wet your whistle we have all your favourite beers on tap, (served ice cold in pots, pints & jugs), Mornington Peninsula wine, Aperol Spritz, Curatif cocktails & Naked Life non-alcoholic spirits. To whet your appetite we have Pub Classics and modern Australian cuisine with ‘shucked to order’ oysters a must for ‘ostreaphiles’.

Koonya Hotel is the perfect spot for casual drinking and dining whilst enjoying Port Phillip Bay, majestic Norfolk Pines, native Couta boats & the grand ferry making its hourly crossing from Queenscliff. As the sun goes down, the volume rises and the time comes to celebrate the fact that you are in one of the best spots, in one of the best seaside towns in the world.

Of the 6 meals we ordered, three were reasonably priced, while the other three were well overpriced. The lamb backstrap in particular was poor with very little meat served for the price.

Was disappointing that seat outside/front was not an option and had to sit at the rear of bistro near toilet entrance. Then to see the tables at front were not used whilst we were there. We were told these tables had booking. Clearly they weren’t

I hadn't been to the kooya in many years, but I was pleasantly surprised; really enjoyed everything. My only gripe was that there was no coffee - they graciously allowed us to get it next door but drinking out of takeaway cups is something I dislike intensely.

Booked for 6:45, venue not busy & wait staff trying to look busy & noticeably bored. Was amazed to be instructed to collect cutlery & table water while staff continued lingering around service area. We’re residents of Sorrento of 15 years & have been to Koonya a number of times trying to support the venue during this time, but never again. Snapper was dry & couldn’t taste the vegetables over the masses of garlic. I don’t mind paying your exorbitant prices but would expect some form of service to complement it. With a great location and massive street appeal it’s such a shame.

They were a little slammed by the late holiday demand, but the service was friendly, the prices reasonable and the food was pretty good. Fresh mussels on the Peninsula are always hard to beat.

Try elsewhere, Overpriced, over cooked, no ambience, no vibe and definitely no value. Parma….(Aussie staple and Australia Day)….overcooked, burnt base, no Parma sauce or ham!!!!!! Go to the Sorrento, at least you will be happy

Steaks were cooked perfectly and a good size, were thoroughly enjoyed. Service was prompt with kids meals brought out first which was great! Mussels were very good too. Only thing to fault was the Parma were a little overcooked and dry but otherwise couldn’t fault anything else.

A very pleasent pub meal with a great view of the bay. Kitchen was accommodating of special requests. The seafood linguini was to die for and my steak was tender and well presented. Overall an enjoyable family venue for a meal.
