A letter from the founder,

From the time I can remember, while I was growing up in this Italian neighborhood, the North End of Boston, my grandmother, Crocefissa Barbara Summa, was a great influence in my life.
It was at her dinner table that I learned of friendship and love, and by her side I discovered the art of Italian cooking. I learned it all begins with the best ingredients to bring out the simplicity of flavors of Sicilian cuisine as well as the many various regions throughout Italy. It pleases me that you selected to dine at La Summa. I know that your experience will be warm and pleasant, with culinary pleasures. - Barbara Summa Sullivan ( JULY 3, 1940 – SEPTEMBER 16, 2022)

If you’re looking for classic, North End, authentic Italian, this is the perfect spot. You can tell they’ve been doing it forever, everything was amazing, super fresh, hot, and really sizable portions. We’ll absolutely be back.

Extremely busy Saturday night in the North End between a Bruins & Celtics game. Restaurant was jam packed within minutes of opening. One of our party was late, staff was more than accommodating and considerate and entertaining. Beverages and food arrived very quickly after ordering. We weren't rushed. Food was delicious.

After doing research on a good place for a nice dinner, La Summa did not disappoint. Since I was traveling solo, I was concerned that service would not be the same as if with a group; I was so wrong. I was greeted warmly and my server Sharon was excellent, she made the experience even better. The cheese ravioli app special was delectable, and the Barbara’s special was just as delicious, although most of that went home with me. I look forward to some day returning to Boston and having dinner at La Summa again.

Service was great and they had singers that apparently work different restaurants and sing a couple of songs. They were really good, loud but talented. The food was only ok and that was disappointing because I had read so many good reviews. I had the baked Manicotti and I thought that was really good. My son had the Pasta Spinaci which should've been better than it was. The flavor was very good but the cream sauce sort of curdled so it was sort of chunky which totally ruined the dish. Mussels were very good, Caesar salad only ok, I've had better. The bread seemed like it was a day old. I love fresh Italian bread and that's not what they served. They need to invest in better lighting, they have what looks like florescent lights which are super dull and no lighting on the tables. I love cute cozy restaurants and this one could be much better.

Staff was friendly and informative. We arrived hours early and they had no issues with bumping up our reservation time. Everything was delicious! Best cannoli I’ve ever had! We will definitely return next time we visit Boston.

This was the first restaurant we went to when exploring the North End and have come back time and time again! We brought Mom and Dad with us this time, and they loved it too!
