Lafayette is an everyday French restaurant conducting the spirit of French dining anew in downtown Manhattan’s NoHo neighborhood. Open morning, noon and night, this grand café and bakery is dedicated to Chef Andrew Carmellini's market-driven bistro cooking in a timeless hallmark setting. Our light-flushed dining room features soaring arched windows overlooking the NoHo streetscapes and a lively rotisserie bar. Our corner boulangerie-patisserie is open all hours offering artisanal breads, croissants, Stumptown coffee drinks, a light breakfast or lunch and a host of confections. In warm weather months, our sidewalk cafe opens daily for open air breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner service.

Food took forever to arrive. Yes it was Sunday and it was busy, but that’s not our fault. They need to staff accordingly and get a kitchen system ready to accommodate a busy dining room

The decoration is a modern and chic update to the classic French Bistro. Unfortunately it stops there. Our food experience was poor to awful. We ordered a selection of appetizers to create a meal starting with a cheese fondue. The fondue arrived as a cheese soup that barely coated the bread. We sent it back and received the same dish but with flour having been added to thicken it. No flavor but at least it stuck to the bread. The escargot (snails) arrived boiling so furiously that it took more than 5 minutes to cool down by which time much of the sauce had boiled off, the snails were so overcooked that they became mush and the garlic flavor was only a hint. Finally the Pate Foie Gras showed up with a strange pink color, cold from the refrigerator and a little cake that looked like it came from a can. The only saving grace was the various breads which were very good and with excellent variety. Ordered the Letivaz cheese with an after dinner drink. Have never actually seen such a small piece of cheese except on a buffet plate with a variety selection. At least it was real. Drinks were good even if the selection of drink items was a little precious. Would definitely not take anyone who knows food to this restaurant, particularly a European.

A scam. Massively overly priced for average food (by French standards), small portions and poor service. How can a restaurant rob customers like this. Never again. Skip at all costs

The food was delicious and served quickly, too quickly in fact, we felt a bit pushed. Also disappointed that the goods from the bakery were not available at the table as we would have like to have one of their fancy filled croissants for dessert.

Great restaurant for our last evening in Manhattan! Everything was great even though it was raining (which added to the romantic mood)!
