Since 1931 and revived in 2024, Restaurant Ile de France combines old-world French culinary traditions with contemporary Montreal influences in the heart of Downtown.
Why they're an Icon
Executive chef: Chef Liam Hopkins
From the OpenTable editors: The stunning Art Deco architecture is reason enough to visit this landmark restaurant in Centre Eaton de Montréal, which first opened in 1931. Evenings flow from the elegant cocktail bar to the fine dining restaurant, where diners can indulge in classic fare such as prime beef tenderloin or gnocchi Parisienne while admiring the space’s well-preserved historic features.

We’re 3 . All of our plates are too salty. Grilled buns in hamburger are burning dark black. Food has no taste

We spent New Years Eve here. I’d read reviews that the food was not great but we found it excellent! The service was a little slow but the place was packed and we weren’t in a rush. The waiters were all super nice. I just think they could use more staff on busy occasions.

This event was poorly planned and executed. When I called earlier in the week to ask about the NYE evening I was told patrons would be able to move to the dancing area after their meal, but there was no dancing area. The “grande salle” was filled with chairs and no other area had been set aside for dancing.
The staff were very friendly, the patrons were in a festive mood and the music selection was great but we could only dance next to our table, which was ridiculous. This was not at all the “dining and dancing” event that was being promoted and that we had been looking forward to.
As for the NYE menu, aside from the raw bar and a few items the choices were mostly the same as what is always offered at lunch and supper. More variety would be appreciated, at any time.

Everything was truly what we hoped for!
Having eaten at a large majority of Montreal’s fine dining restaurants, this experience equally met and surpassed our expectations.
Service at the table by the main server - his descriptions of the food, advice, and routine checking in without over doing it was excellent!
The food was super good!
All other members of the service team, of which there were many, from being received at the entrance to anyone you spoke with during the evening realized they were living up to a big reputation based on the history of what the latest reincarnation was trying to achieve - and it did.
Since it’s opening I was anxious to go, and it delivered on a big night - New Year’s Eve!
I look forward to my next visit.
