Welcome to Lil's Bar & Bistro; we are a small, family run British Bistro serving fresh homecooked food to order. Located on the River Ouse we have a one-of-a-kind view for our customers to enjoy whilst they dine with us. Our talented chefs have created some exquisite dishes for us, their signature dishes being the Philly Steak sandwich and our most popular being the Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie.

We offer 2 for £25 on selected meals and sandwiches Monday-Friday!

Customers can also get cosy with a Coffee and Cake. We have a selection of cakes and hot beverages to choose from for our customers to sit back, unwind or start their day with.

Our renowned Sunday Lunch is a must try. A choice of 3 meats served with all the trimmings & homemade Yorkshire puds.

We are located a stones throw away from The Grand Opera House and York Dungeons and a short walk into the city centre for all other attractions.

Food took an hour and a half to come, and then it was cold when it arrived. When asked to be reheated, food didn’t return for 20 minutes and was still cold in the centre with a cold plate so unsure how they reheated this. Other tables around us had the same problem Slow service even with drink orders Team were good when complained and gracious regarding payment, however would not recommend or return again.

I’ve eaten outside here before first time ate in it was lovely efficient service lovely decor and view of the waterside had festive bagel with riasties and gravy was gorgeous

Actually, can I give this 0 stars? I have no experience to rate! Despite our booking being confirmed 2 days before, we arrived at Lil’s Bistro and Bar (a place chosen for its waterside location and the sentiment in its name) to find it closed. A member of staff from the sister business next door informed us a decision had been made to close due to “the weather” (a little damp and chilly…nothing out of the ordinary for English winter) at 7am that morning. If that was the case, it would’ve been nice of them to let their customers with bookings know that! Still no contact from the Lil’s team to explain the situation for themselves and perhaps even apologise for any inconvenience caused, yet a seated booking confirmation and review request received from OpenTable. Sorry Lil’s…we won’t be back!

Excellent food and the best pub steak pie I've ever had. A proper pie with pastry top and bottom, not just the usual bowl of meat with a flaky pastry on top. My daughter's vegetarian dish and my wife's fish were thoroughly enjoyed. Really efficient, friendly staff. Would certainly eat there again.

The Sunday roast was really delicious. Great portion size, loads of veg and gravy. The kids enjoyed their children’s meals. We were served by several people and they were all lovely.

We were sat in a room upstairs & nobody else was there. Despite the fact they were expecting us, there was no table made up. The staff were pleasant & we were served quickly. However, the food was below average & we weren’t asked if we wanted desserts. I won’t be visiting again.

From start to finish it was an amazing meal. The venue itself is a lovely spot and the best in York by far. The food was amazing and good quality! The service was great and we were looked after brilliantly. Would recommend to anyone wanting a high quality dining experience and unreal food.
