Nice spot in Carlton North for a laid back dinner. A compact yet interesting menu showcasing some fine techniques. Great selection of non-alcoholic drinks for a wine bar. Well worth a visit.

Brilliant meal! The steak tartare oysters were a stand out as were the beetroot with beans and the spring salad. And you have some great non-alcoholic options - much appreciated - keep them coming! (The chilli that reappeared in different dishes felt unnecessary and like it muted some of the nuance of other flavours.) Thanks for a lovely evening.

Loved Malin Hope it will become the new replacement for La Luna as there was a definite need for a great restaurant. The decor is beautiful. Noise could be slightly better ..but I’m deaf in one ear so this is a common issue for me

It was a marvellous meal. Not huge portions but full of flavour and texture. We felt very satisfied at the end of our dinner Service was excellent efficient and friendly. The ambience was excellent though perhaps a little noisy. We will certainly be returning.

We had lunch at Malin recently. The food was O.K. not as good as I was expecting. We ordered the Chicken Ballontine which was slightly overcooked and not as tasty as it should have been. There was no fish main course which was disappointing if you didn't want meat. It was pricey for the quality of the food delivered. The room itself is noisy even with only a few diners, the service was painfully slow considering it was late Sunday afternoon booking and only about 8 other diners in the restaurant.

I would normally have given 5 starts but for a bugbear of mine – the bill. But let me say we thought the meal, ambience, service (with caveat) and food were great and we will definitely be back. Now to my bugbear. I have found that getting the bill and then paying for it can be a trial and can put a damper on a good experience. It took us a while to get someone's attention to ask for the bill then to wait until we could get the card machine to pay. At other establishments I have noticed that when they bring you bill they also bring the card machine which makes sense, you are ready to leave so why drag it out. I am also aware that, as patrons, we are not aware of all the facts. I must stress that apart from that it was a really enjoyable meal and would highly recommend.

Lovely evening at Malin. Beautifully presented scallop entre, which was delicious, and my partner’s oyster was ‘the best ever’. I had the lamb, the vegetable preparations were fresh and the desserts were special- the mint sorbet on my strawberry sauced almond cake was fresh and yummy. You need a layer if the aircon is on.

We arrived to an open door at 5.50pm for a 6pm booking, entered, were greeted, we announced the booking name, and were promptly turned away and asked to come back in 10 minutes because they were not yet open. When we returned a couple minutes past six, there were already three tables sat in the front window. After highly anticipating this visit, this exchange somewhat soured our early moments with Malin. If you're not seating guests, perhaps lock the door? Nitpicking out of the way, the wine selection by the glass had some nice offerings though felt a tad limited. The cocktails we tried were lovely. We sat at the bar and the noise levels were low and service attentive. As for food, I'm not an oyster lover and I will categorically state the oyster and beef was outstanding. The chicken balotine is, by all accounts, their fan favourite, but do yourself a favour and order the lamb, with its rich gorgeous jus (and praline) it was the highlight for me. The broccolini also deserves high praise. Overall a very enjoyable meal.
