   This is my 4th time to Mare and it never disappoints. I have been there for my anniversary, night out with my wife, and business and it is a perfect location for any occasion. There are so many restaurants in the NEnd and it can be hard to standout but Mare is unique from all the other N.End Italian restaurants. Seafood centric but not just, it has something for everyone. It isn't your checkered cloth, red sauce, restaurant so if that's what you want you will find a couple dozen other spots that would fit the bill down the street. But if you are looking for some of the best seafood fused with Italian cuisine, great drinks, a broad wine list across multiple price points, cool vibes, and intimate dining experience with terrific staff then this is your place. I highly recommend

   Food looked better than it tasted. Service lacked personality and warmth - definitely felt more like a ‘customer’ than a ‘guest’. It wasn’t a bad experience but I wouldn’t return.

   The food here was wonderful. However, the wait staff were very rude. When we came we were still waiting for one more person in our party, they kicked us out into the cold to wait until our entire party arrived and we could be seated. Then, we were not seated until 1 hr after our reservation time. They kept telling us there was a party at our table that would not leave, but to force us to wait an hour rather than giving us a different table was unfair.

   Hostess was not very welcoming when our family was greeted - not even a hello. We asked for seating away from the entrance door and there was no openness. We were immediately seated at a table 5 feet adjacent from the door. The door opened/shut through our entire dinner with a cold draft making us very uncomfortable. The food was average and the cold temperature made it very difficult to enjoy our meal and family dinner.

   Our hostess asked us in an indiguisable voice what water we wanted. All we heard was “still” and so we repeated still thinking it was tap. We never buy silly Perrier or whatnot. We were charged $10 for the bottle of spring water. We noticed others had simple glasses of tap water. Ridiculous. The dinner was overpriced, as well. The music was too loud. I We left ticked off and will never return. Im sure we would have better things to say had we not been ripped off for the water.

   The food at Mare is outstanding. We ordered some oysters to start, then had the squid ink linguini with clams and the tuna tartare for our entrees. The servers are attentive, polite and patient (we were talking a lot so we were slow to order). Mare is an outstanding hidden gem in the North End of Boston (tucked away off of Hanover St, with historic landmarks and delicious pastry shops a few steps away. I highly recommend visiting Mare for a special occasion or just dinner with old friends.

    Mare was a great, vibrant spot in the North End. Upside was the charm of the brick interior, dim lighting, and lovely tablesettings. Downside was bright TV's in the dining room, and the noise from the tunnel exit right next to the building. (We sat outside, with the soft panels down). The food was delicious, oysters perfectly shucked and presented, and a great offering of both land and sea fare. Worth the trip if you don't mind noise, and bright screens marring an otherwise dark and lovely setting.
