Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Marseille offers a delightful taste of France in NYC's theater district. Guests rave about the "wonderfully soft" pain Perdue, "excellent" fish dishes, and "heavenly" onion soup. The "attentive and professional" service and vibrant ambiance make it a "go-to choice" for pre-theater dining. Don't miss the oyster happy hour!

Be warned - when you book "Bar seating" that does NOT mean you'll be sitting at the bar. It means they'll try to cram you into some tiny table amid the noise and chaos of happy hour in the bar area (and, in our case, next to an overcrowded table and a door that was letting in 40-degree blasts anytime someone went in or out). The hostess wouldn't let us have another table because I had booked bar seats - intending to sit at the actual bar. Luckily, before ordering two seats at the bar opened and we moved. From there on out the service and food were excellent. We highly recommend the Frisee aux lardons salad and the duck confit (which has a delicious and unique touch of orange to it). I found the octopus a little fishy, though my husband liked it. The bartenders were amazing and attentive. Next time we'll book regular seating though, rather than risk it.

Always one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. Tonight I thought that the service could have been better. The waiter just didn't seem that interested in our table. Also, I thought that the meal was a little overpriced. Sixteen dollars for a few lettuce leaves and a couple of slices of radish seemed excessive and $36 for a piece of salmon felt wrong. The food was good, but pricey, so Marseille may need to fall in to my "special occasion" restaurant category.

We love Marseille and dine there often. The proximity to Port Authority Bus Station makes this an ideal spot when my friend from NJ is coming in jut for dinner. Last night was great- we had a quiet table- at my request- and were able to sit and enjoy our wine and dinner while having the time to catch up with each other. The wine list is really excellent- including many great choices that are not "break the bank" splurges- although they are there too! We both had the mussels which were perfectly cooked and dedlicous. Never disappoints!
