Mawn is a noodle house with “no rules,” and the first restaurant for Chef Phila Lorn and his wife Rachel, who bring with them close to 20 years of experience in Philly’s restaurant scene. Phila, pronounced “Pee La,” broken English for Philadelphia, is a first-generation Cambodian-American chef. The first in his family to be born here, his parents and siblings came to Philadelphia as refugees in 1985 after surviving the war in Cambodia.

Mawn, which means “chicken” in Khmer, the Cambodian language, represents more than one thing. To Phila, chicken was at every meal growing up, and to his parents, chicken represented peacetime. During the war and genocide of the Cambodian people, there was mostly only what was found in nature to eat, including rice and salt. If there was chicken, it meant no war. At the end of that dark time, recipes were lost, and culture was wiped out, but through survival, a new authenticity was born.

    Thank you for booking our $65 Puck&See experience for parties of 6-7ppl. The menu is designed to be served “omakase “ style. This means, the dishes are chosen by our chef and team to give you the full Mawn experience. All dishes are served family style and explained as they are brought to the table. Specials and oysters are not included but may be added on as well as any other dishes.

    The food was dedacent and delicious! There’s layers of flavor in each dish and we had fun identifying what ingredients we were tasting with each bite. Our server Emmanuel was super helpful and easy to talk to. Eating at Mawn is such a delightful experience - you know the food is good when you eat quietly - the only words being muttered were “this is so good”! The ambiance of the restaurant adds to the experience and it all just leaves you feeling relaxed and contented afterwards.

    Had the best experience at Mawn the other night for my boyfriend’s birthday! Our server (Sarah) was wonderful, especially with politely accommodating my food allergies. Food was outstanding, and everyone was so kind. Thank you so much!!

    Everything was absolutely wonderful! From the food to the service, impeccable. We did the Puck&See, where the staff chose our dishes and were extremely pleased with everything that was chosen. All the flavors integrate and express in such beautiful ways. I will definitely be going back! Thank you so much!

    Absolutely everything was delicious and it was a wonderful experience! We did the Puck & See tasting menu and loved every single dish. We were served a large variety and it was very difficult to pick our favorite dish of the night. The staff were the sweetest and most attentive. Can’t wait to go back!
