My comments are specifically about the Northern Starlight holiday pop-up. This dining event had so much potential, but ultimately it fell short. The event started off strong, with custom train “tickets” and a specially decorated check-in area. Maybe I’m naïve, but I really thought/hoped, given the railroad history of The Depot, that they were going to park an actual train car somewhere on the property and host the dining experience inside of it. Instead, the fake train is just inside of a conference room near the Milwaukee Road restaurant. The event description does list the food as small bites, but we weren’t prepared for just how small. Especially considering how boozy the cocktails were, a little extra food would have been ideal. The items we ate were tasty, and they did a great job accommodating dietary restrictions. The cocktails were outstanding! The drinks were definitely a highlight. The service throughout the experience was excellent, from the check-in process through the end of the event. Although it was a little expensive for what they actually provided, the overall experience was positive and I’m glad they tried something new. If this experience comes back next year, I hope they take some notes from what the Travail team does with their basement bar pop-up events. Also, it would be great if there was a discounted parking option to add on to your ticket. $27 to valet park for two hours is outrageous.

Best veggie burger ever, like get it because it is delicious, not because it is meat free.

Most lobby restaurants are not the greatest experience. The Milwaukee, however, was a pleasant surprise. From a gracious hostess to a joyful waitress, to a very, very good meal for the four of us. The only food negative was a relatively bland dressing on the Caesar salad. T”My pappardelle was outstanding and the others felt the risotto, burger and salmon were very fine.

Thank you for dining with us and the nice comments on the risotto, burger and salmon. I will let the chef know about your comments on the Caesar dressing. We hope to see you again soon.

The 16oz Wagyu Sirloin was okay. In my opinion its not worth the $36. I may have set my expectations too high on it. This was my first time trying Lamb chops (Rosemary Crusted Lamb Chop) and I didn't know what to expect. The Lamb Chops by itself was not flavorful, the sauce with it was not good (tasted bland). For $34 it's not worth it. The best thing that we have order was the steak fries, well seasoned, cooked prefect. For $12 it was worth it. Overall the food is mildly tasteful and just not worth its value at all. Service was okay, took a couple of minutes for water to come out. I would not recommend or return.

Thank you for dining with us, B. We appreciate the feedback and will pass this onto our chef to make the appropriate adjustments to those recipes.

Didn’t feel like the food portion was worth the price, unless I missed it in the description I didn’t realize the food was going to be bite sized and they didn’t do anything for husbands birthday. Left hungry.
Milwaukee RoadResponded on 19 December 2024
Thank you for the feedback, Mariah. I am sorry we did not acknowledge your husband's birthday and that the perceived value was not there for you.

It is a really fun experience and a great Christmas activity! The first drink was amazing and the food was really good. It was just such small serving sizes. For $175 they could have simply made a “main course” of some pasta or something not that expensive. Again, the ambiance was amazing. The service was great! Just not a good value for what you are getting. I’d recommend going if you are wanting something fun and christmasy but know that you are going to be hungry after.
Milwaukee RoadResponded on 19 December 2024
Hi Abbie, we are so happy that you had fun! However, I am sorry that you did not perceive the value for money. We were aiming for high end small bites and craft cocktails and hoped the perceived value would be there. I am sorry that was not the case for you. We will take the feedback into consideration for the future.

This was the most unbelievably disappointing experience. For $175 the food portions were ridiculously small, the drinks were bad (one we couldn’t even have more than a sip) and the ambience was not great. The night ended with us going to Taco Bell and complaining about what a total waste of money the evening had been. I cannot recommend NOT going here enough.
Milwaukee RoadResponded on 19 December 2024
I am so sorry that this experience was not to your liking, Kiki. We appreciate your feedback and will look at ways to better explain that this is not a full dinner, but seasonal bites and craft cocktails.

Highly recommend the flatbread pepperoni/sausage! Hubby the burger and fries. Not so great for the price tag. Server was fantastic!

This was a very fun experience. We really enjoyed it. The food was excellent. The service was wonderful. However, I did expect the train view simulation to be more of an actual view of the landscape as the train rode over the countryside or through the mountains. It was just a repeat of the same view for the whole time. Still a very fun experience!
Milwaukee RoadResponded on 19 December 2024
Thank you Becky! We will definitely take the video suggestion into account for next year.
