Yakitori is always fun and it's pretty tasty at Momo. The problem is it's just too expensive. They removed the option to order most sticks a la cart, and instead make you order a set of 5 sticks for 20ish bucks. That's 4 dollars a stick!! For two of us to get a cocktail each and just enough food to be full was 70 dollars a person (including tip). That's just too much money for yakitori. They are also sorely missing a Japanese macro draft beer like Asahi or Sapporo; that seems like a must-have companion to yakitori! The appetizers, at 4 a piece, were priced more reasonably, and the tomatoes in dashi were really great. I always see them posting about Japanese snacks and bar foods that they have available at the downstairs bar (e.g. onigiri, yakisoba), but we were told they only had desert at the bar when we were there on a Friday night. If they started having bar food more consistently I would come back for drinks and snacks, but I don't see myself coming back for the overpriced yakitori, as tasty as it was.

We love this place. Funky and interesting. Very informal. Recommend the cucumber salad and the cocktails!

We spent more than $100 here for two of us-- dinner and only one drink each-- and we ended leaving the place hungry! For example, I was dumbfounded when they brought us two grilled chicken wings for $18-- come on!? I have travelled to Japan several times over the last 20 years and there yakatori is typically considered cheap street food. My dining partner remarked that everything tasted the same-- and I suppose I have to admit that it did!

I really wanted to like this place. My husband and I were thrilled to see a Japanese restaurant open in NE but despite the great reviews and ambiance, we left the restaurant utterly disappointed in our experience. Overall, the food was overpriced, bland, and dry. So bland, in fact, my husband and I couldn't even finish the meal and left to have a second dinner somewhere else immediately after. It was hands down the worst $100 we've ever spent on a meal in DC. In trying over 15 skewers, the only flavor that came through was burnt charcoal. I hope our experience was isolated (because I'd love for more restaurants to thrive in the area) but we certainly will never go back.

Usually not a fan of tapas, so I'm glad we came here for Restaurant Week, which was a great value. Our waiter was great, the food was deceptively simple and surprisingly flavorful, with each skewer offering a unique experience. The desserts were incredibly delicious (although maybe a tad too sweet); definitely get the house-made marshmallow. The beef skewer is also a must-have. Ordering the chef's choice is a wise decision. It may not seem like there are a lot of options, but you're in good hands. There's also an adorable bar downstairs that plays anime.

Go check this out. It's different so worth a visit. The owners and the staff were incredibly friendly. The bar downstairs is lots of fun. Ok yeah its in a part of DC with no foot traffic but that's what made the experience more interesting. It wasn't packed like a 14th street mob scene.

This property has a bad habit of installing restaurants that drain your pocketbook and still leave you hungry. The food can be exquisite, no doubt, but at the end of the day, it's still mostly chicken parts on skewers and this spot is well penetrated into NE DC; something more affordable and filling would be appreciated.

We enjoyed this restaurant. It offers some unusual dishes. But, it is pricey for the amount of food you get. Would go back.
