   Food is amazing. The service was terrible. We actually had to have the manager come over and help Service . Highly recommend the food.

   We made a reservation for Sunday at 11:30am, indicating when asked that we would be ordering their “Sunday Roast” which is advertised as being served all day. They open at 11am and at 11:45am the waitress told us it would be AT LEAST another 30 minutes until the “Sunday Roast” would be ready. They open at 11am, but their featured meal wouldn’t be ready until more than an hour after that? From the time the manager sat us, until he came to our table about the delay, all he did was yawn. And unfortunately his explanation for the delay really spoke to how he DIDN’T CARE…AT ALL. After putting myself thru college waitressing in fine dining, I believe he, the opening manager arrived so late Sunday morning that the kitchen staff didn’t have adequate time to have the featured meal ready when the doors opened. Even though there were confirmed reservations for that very menu item. There was only one other table of 2 in the restaurant and they also appeared to be having challenges in ordering…and it wasn’t the Sunday Roast. And we didn’t wait around hoping for that Sunday Roast either. We wish Monarch & Lion better days, qualified caring staff and something that resembles the British Establishment they claim to be.

   My partner and I went to Monarch & Lion for Valentine’s Day and overall had a disappointing experience. The food was pretty good, but the service was absent and the music was loud & disjointed from the atmosphere. The interior is beautiful and cozy, but there was loud club music playing the whole time, which took away from the ambience. This restaurant has a lot of potential, but room to improve!

   The food was precisely as advertised with selections from British and Indian cultures. The mushroom pot pie was superb and warming. The spicy carrot salad was a nice balance of spicy and cooling yogurt. The ambience was intimate and relaxed. A nice meal for a cold Chicago night.

   I love Monarch and Lion! The atmosphere makes me feel like I’m in London, and the food is amazing. Their tikka masala is my go to, but the pot pies are also so delicious. 10/10

   We tried this place because it was well-reviewed. After eating here we disagree. The place was loud and the service was brusque. The food was only ok pub-fare, nothing particularly elevated or incomparably prepared. The only dish that showed some extra thought and care was the grilled Caesar salad. One of the desserts, the cheesecake parfait, was really awful. All this would be par for the course at a moderately priced restaurant, but it's insulting at a place that charges fine-dining prices. Spend your dining money at one of the hundred other Chicago restaurants that work much harder to provide you a valuable dining experience.

   Tried M&L for lunch during Restaurant Week and was unimpressed. The Brisket Burger was unremarkable as was the Truffle Mac & Cheese (couldn't taste any truffle). The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was reasonable and the Chips (fries) were delightful. Despite a near-empty restaurant in the mid-afternoon, service was lacking. Nothing was compelling enough to interest us in a return visit.

    Definitely will be one of my new favorites, I love the look and feel of the restaurant. Food and drinks were amazing.
