Mr Tompkins is a classic European-style restaurant with a modern twist using Native Australian Bushfoods. Our head chef Eric Kwek, previously from CODA, has carefully curated the menu with quality local produce.

Our paperbark Roasted Murray cod is our signature dish.
Paperbark is traditionally used by indigenous cultures as bedding and to wrap proteins in before tossing them into the fire and we have adopted this method to cook our Murray Cod. To impart the very unique smoky flavor we light the bark on fire to release the aromatic smell in the smoke.

Mr Tompkins is located at 318 Flinders Street Melbourne, opposite the iconic Flinders Street Station in the Melbourne CBD and a short stroll to famous landmarks like Federation Square, MCG, and the Rod Laver Arena.

Our intimate and moody underground space enables our guests to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, but still watch the comings and goings on Flinders Street above through our NYC-style windows.

I booked a lunch for my in-laws birthday. The restaurant did not know about my booking. In the end we were offered the bar menu in the restaurant. This was not what I booked or talked up at all. The food was ok. But pub food. Not Mr Thompsons food that I previously ate a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to do something special for my mother in law. This was not the case. Sorry guys but well below par.

The food was too much overpriced. It gelt the food was cooked for ages and just a quick oven heat to make it hot. The food never looked fresh. Spoiled my date night.

I was very displeased with their menu for Valentines day. How can you run out of food when you only have like five items on the menu? The vegetarian options were horrible. Would not go there again

I am a chef (apprentice 15yr old now 50) eating out is a mine field. This experience was sublime the value was perfect. I was amazed the restaurant was empty. If your looking for casual high end for a special night or b4 a theatre date support this restaurant it needs you..

We were a group of ten and took up the two course meal offer. It was incredibly good value for money. Between us we tried most of the dishes and everyone agreed they were delicious (I strongly recommend the corn bread as a side). The restaurant was quite busy yet we found the service by Caroline to be efficient yet caring and respectful. The setting is lovely and the chairs comfortable. All in all, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to bypass this restaurant.

Great signature cocktail which set us up for a great evening. Easy to go wrong with Venison -but it was delicious and a good Merlot by its side. Great meal, service, and choice of music.
