MUA is known for its open atmosphere, eclectic décor, art events and, of course, its delicious food. Ideal for large parties or intimate gatherings, the spacious dining room creates a relaxed, casual vibe for guests to enjoy their meals. A large selection of wines, cocktails and beers make MUA a great spot for an evening out with friends.

Family owned and run Mua was one of the first restaurants to open in what was then Auto Row in Oakland, in 2008. After their first 2 restaurants, Pastoral in Berkeley (first opened in 1982 while still students, 37 in the architecture program at Cal and San-Ju painting at SFAI) then later Soizic (Jack London Square, 1996), they wanted to shift gears from heavily curated menus to more comfort-based fare catering more to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland. Today you’ll find people of all ages and backgrounds, from Too Short to Jerry Brown.

Hostess did not seem like she wanted to be there. It took 25 mins from getting seated (with a reservation) to get water. Wait staff seemed stretched thin and covering too many tables- obviously not a fault of the staff but perhaps management. Food came out lukewarm and fries soggy so food had been sitting around for a bit. Cocktails were good however. Overall, meh.

Incredible open space in what I assume is a converted warehouse. I sat upstairs, overlooking the main dining area, which was perfect. Really diverse crowd, fantastic set list by the DJ, great overall energy. Shared the Caesar salad to start, which frankly could have been half the size (it was two full romaine hearts) and the 1lb Ribeye with fries. Finished with the bread pudding. That was more than enough. Great service. Note that 20% gratuity is automatically added, which I was fine with, but just beware so you don't double-tip.

                                                                                                                                              My girlfriend and I love Mua and we go here several times a year. This year we chose to go here for Valentine’s Day and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere is so fun and the food is so delicious. All of the servers are very helpful and kind. Mua really is a treasure!

We really enjoy the ambiance and vibe there. We ordered the bone marrow, calamari, Brussels, ribeye w/fries and bread pudding. Everything was yummy, but would have been nice if the dessert would have been complementary as we were out celebrating my birthday. So that was a little disappointing. Overall though, we had a nice time.
