Nami Kaze Hawaii is the story of Chef Jason Peel’s culinary journey. Combining the flavors from his hometown of Kaua‘i, and the decades of experience working for some of Hawai‘i’s top culinary leaders, including Ian Ruso of Michele’s at the Colony Surf and Roy Yamaguchi, Nami Kaze Hawaii is a unique melting pot of culinary creativity. Nami Kaze Hawaii is currently open for brunch and dinner, Wednesday through Sunday. Executive chef: Jason Peel

From the OpenTable editors: Chef Jason Peel is known nationally as the former executive chef for Roy’s Waikiki and beloved locally as a cooking instructor at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. He opened his own restaurant Nami Kaze in 2022, quickly scoring a couple of James Beard Award nominations for izakaya-style small plates, both hot and cold, that star ingredients from favorite local farmers and fishermen. Be sure to try the hamachi rolls, plus the honey walnut shrimp stacked on waffles at brunch.

perfect brunch experience . Sat in a booth 👌 perfect service from Kainoa and team … and tried many of the different dishes and libations and truly enjoyed everything .

Decided to try Nami Kaze for dinner tonight. Food was delicious. The Hamachi roll was very probably the best thing we got. The flavors really mixed and changed nicely as you first taste it. The scallop was quite good as well. The risotto that they pair it with was a nice touch. Pickled beets with goat cheese was great but nothing out of the ordinary. Still a good choice. Was not disappointed. The only thing we didn’t enjoy were the large TVs all over the place. I could see it being great for watching a game or at the bar but I didn’t see anyone actually watching and they were quite distracting during dinner. That definitely cheapens the atmosphere. Will definitely return though with more time and bigger appetites so we can try more things!

Loved Nami Kaze! Everything was super interesting and delicious. Service was warm and friendly. The lilikoi souffle pancake was amazing, as was the mushroom omelet! Great place to stop on your way to the airport if you're not a local.

Everything was great. They put a lot of care and thought into the meal for Thanksgiving. They even made me a special dish because of an allergy. The pumpkin crisp dessert was especially good. Staff was fun and friendly and knowledgeable about the meal

Food and service from BJ were excellent. They don’t have separate appetizer and entree dishes so I recommend picking a couple dishes—maybe two dishes per person—to share family style.

Excellent on all counts. Outstanding Pork Belly dish, as well as Ahi with natto, okra & Yama imo. Beets (salad) perfectly cooked, corn beignets light & delicious. Note: You don’t have to be a drinker to enjoy a meal here, altho menu is Izakaya style. Service attentive & unobtrusive.
